Fatal Error Exception

Hi, I am unable to play War Thunder today (9th Dec 2024) because when I press Play the client crashes with the ‘War Thunder Client Report’ message popping up and with the error ‘Fatal Error Exception’. The only change today is the War Thunder client installed the Battleye anti-cheat system. I’ve made no changes myself, and I don’t use Stream.

Did you verify the game files in the launcher options? (Spanner button in the top right, in there ‘check game files’ or something.)

You also want to be sure you’ve added the game folder to the antivirus exceptions, not just the executables.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me FlyingDoctor. I tried verifying the game files via the launcher options and it said they were up to date and I disabled Windows Defender on private and public modes. Unfortunately the same crash happens.

Sounds more that you found the network options and that was the firewall.

You wanna hit Security, into the Virus and threat protection, under virus and threat protection settings ‘manage settings’, and down the bottom ‘Add or remove exclusions’ and add the game folder to it.

Thanks, I struggled to find the right bit, but I think I did it.

Sadly still no joy. The same crash error occurs.

I do wonder if the issue is with the Battleye installation. It is only a guess, but when I ran my son’s computer it installed Battleye and ran the game without issue first time around.

You could try a full reinstall if that may help, be sure to uninstall it, then delete the game folder if it even remains, and reinstall.

I’d also send the install to a better folder like C:\games\WarThunder or something rather than letting it install to the localappdata folder.

Before you do this, run the launcher as admin for a go to see if it’ll kick it over past that stage.

Hi again. I ran the game from the aces_BE.exe and no problems. I don’t know if this is a long term solution but it works so far.

Earlier I tried running the normal launcher as admin but that didn’t help.
