Fast and Dangerous: R400

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/PdqEa4O1mdsK

After playing it a bit I have to say its BR is far, far to high. It barely moves. For a supposedly wheeled flanker its just slower than most tanks. In a practical way. Its acceleration is too slow and it never reaches its top speed. Uphill its like going with 9km/h. Fails to climb the slightest slope.

Its far worse than Radkampfwagen and other nation’s flankers. Not even the same hemisphere.

Typical scene, just after matchstart. The other light vehicles are significantly faster. Despite some have much lower BRs. I didn’t manage to reach the cap in time. Its acceleration is exetremly bad.

Shifting would be better yes, but currently there is no reliable information on the engine. Without proof of the OM-442LA being the used engine they can “balance” it the way they deem when it comes to rpm and torque values.

I will tell you this much; The RPM/Torque represented in game is not correct at all on the machine-Compare it to the documentation on the OM-442LA 320-370 KW. For a 24.5 ton armored car, it struggles to drive up hills even though it has been stated to use a diesel engine which are made to produce significantly higher torque for the weight.

I just don’t see Gaijin actually properly modeling this without changing the engine to factory specific numbers even with the added transmission gears; It just means it would be smoother at shifting on flat surfaces sure-But it will regardless still struggle on hills and that is the point I’m trying to highlight.

Right now even the above screenshot for example, at 2000 RPM the vehicle is falling behind because initial torque is just not enough to “pull” the vehicle forward and struggles to shift up. Even though initially when the vehicle starts accelerating it should already be much ahead of these vehicles or at least matching them for its weight class.

Well I just dug through all the 2000-04 Rheinmetall-Detec & Rheinmetall Landesysteme websites, and zero mention of the R400. I genuinely think Janes is the singular only source on the vehicles engine, there is still the option to contact the person who restored the one in Holland to see if they could provide more solid information.

TH-400 got traction in 1987-89, and there are a lot of mention of it during its market period between 1989-97 but not enough in terms of descriptive information. Once the company was bought and Rheinmetall -Detec acquired multiple other companies to form Henschel Wehrtechnik with them to create Rheinmetall Landsysteme in 1999 officially.

I think this vehicle is officially going to remain dead and stay a paper tank unless Gaijin and the Bug Report moderators want to make an exception to some sources.

If we’re not going to accept the vehicle clearly was given a 320 KW engine value and Daimler-Benz clearly have had their 300-400 Series engines used plenty in Thyssen-Henschel vehicles, and with the light of the clear OM-442LA document showing clear information that attributes to the stated engine power rating; Making it a safe assumption this vehicle did use it-

Then I firmly believe Gaijin should have just not added this vehicle. I hate to break it, but almost every vehicle added to Germany has huge discrepancies, and the trend has only gotten worse. Game has lost quality and detail exchanged for slop on demand.

2A7V, Puma, Boxer MGS, R400
all low effort additions with buggy / missing armor, incorrect 3d model, literal holes where you can see inside etc.
Even mostly classified Chinese or Japanese tanks are better modeled

Especially the nice turret basked mechanic, as if the R400 wasn’t bad enough. its such an anti-vehicle.

2PSO is still missing flw 200+. Boxer has incorrect model layout, missing entire spall liner for driver/mission module, plenty of missing armor on them too, reported but not fixed 7.5 meter skid steering, it should be turning similar to the EXF 8x8. 2AV still has documented proof it was made to have a 120mm; Trials it used a 105 to compare differences with a 120, germany immediately equipped it back to a 120 for a parade in germany before it was flown back. Vilkas and MGS use FFO module, turret basket aren’t modeled right, ammunition is just not in logical places where other things documented in the boxer are present. EC-665 is still missing ASGARD kit, THOR kit, modules modeled incorrectly, commander and pilot x-ray are swapped, cockpit is still missing im pretty sure the 0.5" armored plexi-gass too. PAH-1’s are missing documented Stinger kit for under-slung HMD aiming or pylon-side mounted. PUMA’s weight is wrong, I still also even have 2001 post from Rheinmetall Landsysteme showing the PUMA does have a third full fire-rate disclosed as emergency mode. PT-16/T14 mod. was increased in BR, still no turret composite modeled, and missing dm43. DM43 reported previously before but said it will not be added for balance reasons, meanwhile counterparts have better pen at the same BR. So what is the real issue there? Superficially nerfing? Very good. PzH2000 second vertical turret plate doesn’t have an animation but the first does so it looks like the barrel is clipping and caused people trying to nerf its elevation and soyjaking because they cheaped out on the model. And that’s just the top tier side of German vehicles right now. The list is much bigger than this.

hahahha look at the vertical traverse speed.
You know, the feature they marked as an advantage in their video?

They made this change together with TAM but didnt mention it also affecting R400 in the changelog for some reason…

My last bug report with data comparisons of other Henschel/Daimler-Benz vehicles from the same period which also use OM-Series engines. Explicitly stated figures line up with this engine that was manufactured right around the same period, with the same power range; Even as far to show how power/torque is modeled the SAME exact way on the Radkampfwagen 90.

It should be modeled correctly. If this doesn’t go through I’m officially done.

Its Gajin. They advertise its fast turret traverse as signature feature and 3 days later it gets nerfed :) :)

Turret ring armor isn’t modeled on the R400s turret. Posting it here.

Yeah this vehicle is officially dead lmao.

this thing is still 9.7? lmao

Couldnt you also say that theres is no proof of any engine at all? Who is there to proof that it wasnt a turbocharget 1000hp prototype put in for some tests?

Isnt that the same issue for almost everythink ingame? Who is there to proof anything? No one has that vehicle in their garage to show and even if, no one could validate that someone hasnt been tinkering with it.

The restored original prototype is in NL, restorer himself the engine is an OM-442LA back in 2003 but gaijin can’t accept that as a source.

Edit: If you really want the history, the British Class 1 which also has a singular prototype parker somewhere, (British TH-400, small chassis differences and smaller powerpack) used a weaker Daimler-Benz engine. But the Thyssen-Henschel one in Germany? By 1987, and the singular prototype was built after that year Daimler-Benz had released the OM-442LA and begun producing it specifically for 6x6 and 8x8 trucks and buses that needed up to 30T weights pulled.

now imagine if it was russian))))))))))
jokes aside, this thing should not be any higher than 9.7 anymore

New butchered vehicle for christmas!!! yay!!

Also they’re giving one to Britian only.

Its an event vehicle? Make sense its just for one nation.

how come? looks like a pretty good spike slinger to me
