False Positive: Kicked for "Running in a Virtual Machine" (Not using a VM)

Hello everyone,

I was just kicked from a match (in the middle of the game). The exact error message I received was:

Disallowed program vm

I want to report this as a false positive. I am not running any virtual machine or disallowed program.

Context & System Information

I am not running the game inside a virtual machine.

However, I do have virtualization software installed on my system for academic use, which I suspect Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) is incorrectly detecting and flagging as “vm”.

Specifically, I have:

  • Oracle VM VirtualBox
  • Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2)

Neither of these programs were active or running when I was kicked from the game. This appears to be a false positive triggered simply by their installation.

Questions

  1. Is this a known issue with a recent EAC update confusing these (inactive) background components for an active VM?
  2. Has anyone else received a “Disallowed program vm” kick recently?
  3. What specific logs (game logs, launcher logs, EAC logs) can I provide to help the developers investigate this?

Try to close your VMs every time you play.

I would go to support with the information you presented here as it sounds clear enough and they will have logs on the issue…they will ask for additional info if necessary.

HOWEVER…even if i am not able to id any “mistake” on your explanation, support is usually wary of false positives (as many aren’t), so you better be sure you have reason and arguments on your side.

Not sure if this happens every time and if it started recently but you could try to identify if anything changed on your side (or the suggestion above). I doubt that just having something installed (but inactive) would trigger EAC…but again…not an expert. If it happens again i would go immediatly to support…

I’ve had Virtual Box installed for years and no issues with War Thunder’s anti-cheat. I rarely have it running VMs at the same time as War Thunder, though, but I have on occasion and haven’t had any issues.

I think that error message means it thinks you’re running the game in a VM, which afaik is not allowed anymore.
