F4J(UK) needs a rework

I just wish we had wing tanks. The choice between gunpod or fuel tank in sim, sucks.

Could the F4 “Junk” have the F4J’s HMS? I’ve seen and heard pilots on interview say yes

Being able to have and having are different things in the Gaijin universe and are only put into practice when they want to, the Phantom F.3 (F-4J) did not receive the HMS that the F-4J USN received, in addition to not having received the AIM-7F (Although in theory the Skyflash is a worthy competitor to the AIM-7F and M because it is well updated in front of them), Gaijin could give it the AIM-9L, it is a good airframe, but the current performance leaves something to be desired… Precisely because it needs to fit the 9G seeker and the Skyflash is a copy of the AIM-7E2, in 12.0 with AIM-9L let’s say it would give this plane a breather, not only for that, but giving the 9L to the Phantom FGR.2 as well, the FG.1 could continue as is, or it could drop the BR to 11.7 and go “equal to equal” with the Mig-23ML and the rest of the 11.7, removing the Skyflash and leaving 9G and AIM-7E in its place , since the FG.1 (which is in the game) is the British Navy version and only used AIM-9D and AIM-7E if I’m not mistaken.

At least the way I understand it, the Skyflash is still stuck in the AIM-7E-2 era. Not exactly upgradable since it legitimately was built off the 7E-2, but the seeker performance could be improved to match the AIM-7F/M like it’s supposedly supposed to. Imo it would make more sense to give the planes the AIM-7E-2 as their “bad” missile and the Skyflash as their “good” missile. Since (iirc) the Phantoms entered service way before the Skyflash did.
It could also receive the Aerojet Hoopoe as the motor which could increase the flight time/range but idk if Hoopoe Skyflashes were ever used on the Phantoms. Maybe as two distinct versions?

I’m not really knowledgeable on the Skyflash so I can’t really say more than that. If worst comes to worst they could give the Phantoms a semi-historical AIM-7F or something, but that would be lame and a cheap solution

I did research on this and ever Phantom F.3 that was delivered was of blocks of F-4J that were not able to use the VTAS. A bit of a disappointment but it is what it is. In that sense an HMS for the Phantom F.3 would be “semi-historical” as none of the planes had one, even if they had the VTAS type helmets they weren’t configured for use with the FCS and so would be useless basically.

This is so real, I’ve lost kills in sim because I didn’t take a gunpod lol

I don’t care, I’m not going without a Gun. This is why no wing droptanks drives me up the wall - you either have a really short reach in terms of sortie time, or you lose any meaningful close in capability.

The seekers are already as good as it gets, you cant really improve it. Issue of skyflash is range and motor. Not the seeker or maneuverbility. You need stand-off weapon, not sparrow which is effective under 5km headon.

FGR2s entered service mid-to-late 1960s, Skyflash 1978.

As for Skyflash themselves… I dont necessarily have issue with their performance, except for the BR being 12.0. There are upgraded versions, but those are for the Torando, I dont think they were ever deployed to the Phantoms. There is also a possible an issue with Skyflash DFs guided via PD. I’ve had issues and i’ve heard from others that have as well with both the Phantoms and Viggen. So maybe something not quite right there.

So:

  • Investigate Skyflash + PD radar
  • Add wing fuel tanks

FGR2 + F4J(UK)

  • Lower BR or Add Aim-9Ls
  • FGR2 could get AGM-12 Bullpups and possibly also Napalm.

FG1:

  • Just drop the BR (11.7 would be plenty)

Every single time I ditch the gunpod, I get perfect oppotunities to just fire it and get a kill without effort. The moment I take it, Ill go the entire match without firing a single round.

Aim-9ls would help to get more chances inside an RB, while the lower b.r. might not change its effectiveness as the problems i’m facing the most while playing are long range radar guided missiles (like the aim54, fakkour90 and aim120s). Sometimes i die without even knowing who shot me and form where.

Yeah, at least though at 11.7 you wouldnt see any AMRAAM. Coming next major, you’ll be facing F-4F ICE with AMRAAM constantly.

With the FGR2 and FG1 being identical. Id drop one down and leave with 9Gs and give the other Aim-9Ls… Then players can choose which buff they want to use.

I believe this to be an issue with compression, and not the aircraft itself. There’s not really much we can do about that but like pray lol

Personally, because they’re in different lines (the RAF and RNaf lines) I would rather see two versions of like early and late respectively with the key difference being 9Ls and expanded A2G; however, only if the BRs are decompressed should it be added in this way. Or, alternatively, did the British ever operate the AIM-9P? Could put those on the Phantoms, although I’m not sure how much a difference from the AIM-9G that would be.
Additionally I remember reading the radars were “upgraded” at some point but what that upgrade means I do not know.

Dont beleive so.

Aim-9G ----> Aim-9L ----> Aim-9M (RAF only briefly used them due to dechirped rails breaking them. FAA used them quite a bit) —> ASRAAM

Personally we need further BR Decompression that should put F-4J variants in this way:

F-4E<F-4J(UK)<FG.1, FGR.2<F-4J,S<F-4EJ Kai

Wdym? It gets 90 countermeasures (Nvm I’m talking about the wrong plane lol)
