F-16D Block 52+ “Jastrząb” – The Ultimate Multi-Role Falcon of the Polish Air Force
Hi everyone! Welcome to my suggestion for the Polish F-16D Block 52+ “Jastrząb” (Hawk). This proposal aims to introduce one of the most technologically advanced and visually unique variants of the Fighting Falcon operated by a NATO member in Europe.

Historical Background in Poland
At the turn of the millennium, the Polish Air Force (Siły Powietrzne) was in dire need of modernization, relying heavily on obsolete Soviet-era MiG-21s and Su-22s. Under the “Peace Sky” program, the Polish government evaluated several Western fighters, including the French Mirage 2000-5 and Swedish JAS 39C/D Gripen. On December 27, 2002, the American F-16 Block 52+ was officially selected as Poland’s future multi-role fighter.
A contract for 48 aircraft (36 single-seat F-16C and 12 twin-seat F-16D) was signed in April 2003. The twin-seat D-model was not just a trainer; it was procured as a fully combat-capable strike and SEAD platform. On November 8, 2006, the first Polish F-16s landed at the 31st Tactical Air Base in Poznań-Krzesiny. During the official ceremony, the aircraft was christened “Jastrząb” (Hawk) by the First Lady of Poland, Maria Kaczyńska.
Polish Jastrzębs from the 31st and 32nd Tactical Air Bases quickly achieved operational readiness, integrating deeply with NATO infrastructure. Polish F-16Ds have participated in numerous high-profile international exercises, such as the NATO Tiger Meet (where they frequently display stunning custom tiger liveries), Red Flag, and Blue Flag. They have also protected Baltic airspace during the “Orlik” Baltic Air Policing missions, proving their reliability and advanced combat capabilities in harsh electronic warfare environments.
Design & Polish Specific Features
The Polish F-16D Block 52+ stands out from standard Falcons due to two major structural modifications:
1. Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFTs): Mounted on the upper fuselage, these aerodynamic tanks add 3,000 lbs of fuel, vastly increasing combat radius without occupying underwing weapon pylons.
2. Dorsal Spine Fairing (“Garb”): A distinctive feature of the Polish two-seater that runs from the cockpit to the tail. It houses the advanced internal electronic warfare systems, chaff/flare dispensers, and specialized communication equipment, meaning the backseater acts as a dedicated Weapon Systems Officer (WSO).
The heart of the aircraft is the AN/APG-68(V)9 radar, which offers a 33% increase in air-to-air detection range over older variants and features a high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mode for precision ground mapping. Crucially, Poland equipped these jets with the AN/ALQ-211(V)4 AIDEWS (Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite), giving the aircraft top-tier passive and active countermeasure capabilities against modern radar-guided threats.

Armament & Combat Potential
The Polish F-16D is a true multi-role powerhouse, capable of carrying an incredibly diverse array of modern NATO weaponry for both air-to-air and precision strike missions.

Internal Gun:
- 1x 20 mm M61A1 Vulcan rotary cannon (511 rounds)
Air-to-Air Missiles (AAM):
- AIM-9X Sidewinder (High-off-boresight short-range infrared missile, fully integrated with JHMCS helmet)
- AIM-120C-5 AMRAAM (BVR active radar homing)
- AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM (Advanced BVR active radar homing)
Air-to-Ground Precision Munitions:
- AGM-65G2 Maverick (Infrared-guided TV air-to-ground missile)
- GBU-12 Paveway II (500 lb Laser-guided bomb)
- GBU-24 Paveway III (2,000 lb Advanced Laser-guided bomb)
- GBU-31 JDAM (2,000 lb GPS/INS-guided bomb)
- GBU-38 JDAM (500 lb GPS/INS-guided bomb)
- AGM-154C JSOW (Joint Standoff Weapon - GPS/INS/IIR guided glide bomb for stand-off strikes)
Why should it be added to War Thunder?
The F-16D Block 52+ “Jastrząb” would be a fantastic addition to the top-tier aviation meta. Its unique combination of a 2-man crew, distinctive visual style (CFTs + Dorsal Spine), top-end electronic warfare suite (AIDEWS), and highly advanced ordinance (AIM-9X, AIM-120C-7, AGM-154C) makes it stand out from any F-16 currently in the game. It could perfectly serve as a crown jewel for a future Polish sub-tree/independent tree, or as a highly anticipated high-tier event/premium vehicle in an existing tech tree.
