So I got the f14a yesterday (not the IRAF in case your wondering) and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to play it in regards to maneuvering and basic engine control (its a gas guzzler IIRC)

50 - 60 minutes fuel, bind decent radar controls (Use TWS) Make sure not to climb too much, and dont bother bringing more than 4 AIM-54As at a time.

You definitely have to bind wing sweep controls for F-14, but I can’t say anything about engine controls.
That is extremely unhelpful.
yea I was thinking about that would be better if it was like dcs where you can just flat out prevent the wings from sweeping by using the flaps but war thunder will automatically raise the flaps if you wing sweep

didnt intend to use it in bvr, I tend to stick to IR missiles
then i strongly reccomend skipping it. Youre going to get hammered up close by newer more numble and aggressive aircraft
You know I was asking for tips on maneuvering and engine management, right? the weapons and whats good and whats not don’t really matter much to me since I like to fly low level 90% of the time anyways
Bring 4 sparrows and 4 sidewinders. do your best to avoid turnfights as you will be outrated by everyone.

3rd party, made me remember when i killed an f20 with the f4j because I wasn’t using radar and he never knew I was there XD
Turning off radar and only using it to lock is the strategy I use for all radar missiles. doesn’t set off a RWR until its too late to react. Make sure to bind “lock Radar/IRST” on target to a button bind to make it fast to lock.
This is the only way I’ve been able to make the harrier FA2 competitive at 13.0
been meaning to bind that to b for a while now lol I keep forgeting
stongly reccomend you do so ASAP. with aircraft equipped with HMD systems it will make locking targets a dream
F-14 doesn’t have HMD though, even though they should get the tested VTAS

Also, do not use the tomcat in a dogfight. It only has rear aspect IR missiles, the only reason it’s 12.7 is because of the (gimped) phoenixes
