I was going to talk about this (since it’s the seventh time I’ve died to a top-tier missile that isn’t fooled by flares and chaff). The F-104 playing in top tier matches against MiG-23MLB, Mirage, Phantom, and other planes with all-aspect and front-aspect missiles makes it practically unplayable, as it lacks the maneuverability to dodge these missiles effectively. The flares and chaff can’t easily deceive them. What I’m trying to say is: most of the time, you can’t flank on the map because the F-104’s fuel consumption is extremely high, so trying to flank is a risk that many aren’t willing to take (and with good reason). The only option is to use the F-104’s speed to tear through the enemy line, then turn around and try to attack them from behind. This is basically the universal tactic for this plane. It would be feasible if it weren’t for these front-aspect and all-aspect missiles with 30g and Mach 2.0 speeds, which neither flares nor chaff can reliably counter.
