The upcoming release of the F-101 without missiles is yet another USAF slap in the face considering rhe Japanese and German F86’s get missiles and USSR was given the R-77-1 in Hornet Sting. At 9.3 BR it can be uptiered to 10.3 and with no counter measures it is MiG-21 food. The only place it remotely makes sense is to put it at 8.3 with the much unloved F9F-8 Cougar (which has missiles). Needless to say having the F86-2 at 9.0 is equally stupid on toast and has needed a down tier for years.
Seriously the argument for the all gun only variant F101C is flagrantly biased. There were 10 times as many B’s produced over C’s, B variants carrying the AIM-4 Falcon and he nuclear AIR-2 Genie as opposed to the all gun F101C. Comon Gaijin, when only about 47 C’s produced vs 480 B’s your thesis for shoving another F86 grinding roadblock to the F104 is thin at best. Give the US mains the historical equipment we deserve. Or, just drop the pretense of being historically accurate and start calling USSR the ‘easy’ mode and anything NATO ‘hard’.
I’m not disagreeing that the premise of this post is kinda weird to complain about, but you seemingly missed the title. Both F104s and the F100 get missiles.
A missile only F-101 would not be a very fun plane to fly and I’m very glad there will be a variant with guns. However I do support a CF-101B being added to the British tree, alongside a normal F-101B.
America has very powerful planes in the F-101s BR bracket btw.
honestrly not seeing the big what the issue that you have with the f101C, is an historical equipment… It is a new unique vehicle not a copy paste and competitive for it’s br, “not sure how it is another Nato slap in the face” when it is a vehicle that the comunity literally asked for.
People will complain about anything now wont they? There are so many legitimate issues in this game and people are upset they got something they asked for, small wonder Gaijin just pumps out copy slop now.
while on the dev server i actually spaded the F-106 that uses said AIM-4s, and let me tell you, you would wish you would have the guns over the missiles, there was a 30% chance the missiles just wouldn’t track properly, doesn’t mater the G or F version of the AIM-4, as it was against bots most of the time my targets was large WW2 bombers such as the PB4Y, the radar ones still missed even though they were fired within a mile with the bomber on my nose
I’ve had 4 missiles kill in one game before, it’s extremely satisfying when they actually do something, but that’s one out of hundreds. it helps significantly if you’re already going fast and I imagine in their environment of high altitude/air speed vs large non or poorly maneuvering targets the missile would perform perfectly fine, unfortunately that will never happen
yeah, due the the AIM-4s not having any proxy fuse (and probably due to the huge tail of the PB4Ys) the missile flew right above the waist gunners and went past, same thing happened with a fully rear aspect shot
used both the AIM-4F and G on the dev server off the 106, that’s my genuine experience with them, yeah they can kinda pull, but with the limited range, id rather just have guns
The one thing I will argue it’s another case of a plane being added “too late” Kinda if they added the F-86H right now.
The F-101 would’ve made a neat fighter back like… 7 years ago. Now? It’s not much to speak about. It’s still a good addition but much of the hype is gone and most of what makes it special is the fact it will be another plane carrying AIM-4s.
It’s more like “Oh… You finally added it now. Good job I guess.”
If it’s at 9.0 BR it should be pretty damn good at it’s BR though and would be a good tree filler.
