I noticed that the French F-8E cannot use custom loadouts (for example, a R550 on one side and a R530 on the other), so I was wondering if this was a technical limitation (of the avionics I assume) or just an oversight in the game
I believe this is a limitation of the aircraft; if I’m not mistaken, only one type of missile could be carried at a time (for French missiles) due to the wiring. This would explain why it’s not possible to mix Matra 530 and 550 missiles.(I’m trying to find a source to confirm what I’m saying)
In any case, the Matra 530 was almost never used on the aircraft due to its lack of accuracy and the fact that the missile’s effectiveness decreased in a marine environment.
It’d be cool and probably useful to carry a r530 for radar at the start of the match and then a magic for after but I thought I also heard once it is a historical thing, unfortunately
Alright, makes sense I guess. By the way, while we’re on that, can the 530E be radar-slaved like the 550?
To be honest, I have no idea. The 530 IR can be radar slaved (especially on the Mirage III and F1), but I don’t know if the AN-APQ 104 on the F-8E is capable of that.
Alright, well that answers my question partly at least, thank you
