You don’t have to die to anybody either.
yeah viggen players aren’t always the brightest.
Zero radar missiles at 11.0 are fired from aircraft using PD radars, and almost all of them are dodged with minor agility.
11.0 is very much the IR missile BR.
SARH only becomes a constant threat 12.0 onward.
With a minor AIM-7E-2 threat from Viggen C at 11.3, emphasis on minor.
i would argue 11.3, anything with at least 7e2 equivalents are pretty insane at those low brs.
The issue is all but Viggen use standard pulse radars, so lower altitudes or chaff will prevent radar engagements almost entirely.
I do get your perspective though.
AIM-7E-2 from F-4’s and Viggens are deadly, but most of my matches are uptiers. MiG-23ML’s with R-24R’s are extremely deadly, and F-4S and F-4J with Aim-7F’s are almost undodgeable without multipathing.
Once you learn… vectors, engagement of aircraft that host SARHs become easier.
Just remember, a missile launched from the front aspect has a faster closing distance and needs to pull more than if it was rear aspect.
That fact is how I dodged an R-60M from the front aspect using F-104A.
It’s a skill I’m glad to have honed and I do wish more people do, cause it makes engagements far more interesting when the person I’m trying to engage is already defeating my missiles preemptively while positioning themselves for advantage on myself and my team.
I’m gonna be honest, this plane is literally one of the easiest to fly in the game if you know what you’re doing. Nothing at its BR can win in a dogfight against it and it has an insane amount of ammo, for a pair of incredibly accurate 20mm cannons. Going against SARH slingers is easy considering the best of them all, the F4S, can be very easily defeated with multipathing. All other aircraft it can face that have semi-decent SARH missiles usually only have two, and/or have terrible radars.
My highest kill game in Air RB was 9 kills, with an F-5E, because bullying wallet warriors with it is the best when a sale drops.
I’m something of a F-5 enjoyer myself
Once you learn to let go of the “hold S” reflex and instead embrace the energy fighting mindset, then you have a real beast of a fighter. You have so much energy retention and you mostly face delta wings and other dorito fighters that dump all their energy on the first turn. You easily outlast them.
I can see how the F-5’s could be disadvantaged in a boom and zoom 1v1 scenario against a competent enemy but truth… is this rarely happens. The reality of air RB is a that every game devolves into a chaotic furball and this is where the F-5 thrives. As for enemy radar missiles, they’re only a problem on uptiers, and you should be staying low anyways. I don’t think this outweighs the many strengths of the aircraft. You’ve got excellent guns, excellent energy retention, good maneuverability and serviceable missiles.
IMO the F-5E cannot possibly go any lower than 11.0, it’s simply too good.
Edit: I will agree with you on this, there is definitely a compression problem around this BR. You can see this with the F-5E FCU, as it’s vastly more capable (4x all aspect missiles) but only 0.3 BR higher than base F-5E.
Viggen is food lmao, its only redeeming ability is two skyflash with a PD, fly low and go for it, ive killed enough Viggen in my A7K because its easy to nuke them, in a F5E you will always win tbe dogfight if you know what you’re doing, the Viggen is one of the most meh airframes for dogfighting especially given its energy retention. They have a worse AoA° then a F4J unless they drop to sub 400kph which means they become a barley flying free SL piñata. Stay fast and keep turning with them. Make them bleed speed to get gun on and keep your distance once far enough away and once they are slow you can eat them alive easy.
People need to learn not to turn as hard as possible and learn to conserve their energy seriously the F-5’s are arguably some of if not the best energy fighters, getting them slow is the easiest way to get yourself into a situation where you’re too slow to escape when other fighters chase after you.
okay comeon, now thats just not true, at least f-4js with gunpods on. viggen is easily one of the best planes at 11.3, needs to go to 11.7.
okay i just tested why tf can the f4j pull 45 degrees aoa with the gunpod off, that is indeed more than the viggen wowza
it’s not food, imo best 11.3 because you can just zoom around at around mach .9, thing has pretty nice acceleration till that speed, just getting bunch of gun kills or beam people outta the air with the 7e2.
this includes games stock, and even then for an average player like me it’s quite ridiculous
Sorry had to find these just for reference lol
Might be a bit dated though
what does this mean, max aoa? sustianed aoa? because max i got like 42 for viggen and 45 for f4j. also, no one’s playing an f-4j without a gunpod
Max AoA iirc been a while since i talked with the guy who made them, i had lost a dogfight to my friend while messing around and had mentioned that the F4S could outpull my viggen and someone approached me with this. Now ive known that the phantoms have been over performing since the days of phantoms vs Mig 21 but never suspected any if the non agile eagle ones to be so good at it but to my suprise yes a Phantom has better STR and Max AoA at higher speeds than a Viggen.
All vehicles should be clean in the above results
It may not be food to you, but it is for me, my only struggle vehicle is the J7E lol, now thats a fun aircraft imo.
i assume this is with instructor limits on then? because full real, those are the numbers i got get stable (i got like 80 aoa with the viggen technically but it just went into a flat spin after)
Should be with instructor. Regardless trying to dogfight in a Viggen is a death sentence acceleration is too poor for the 16v16 matches it gets thrown into, you’re better off playing as a BnZ fighter with it unless you know you wont get chased by another fighter after the fight. Viggen in Sim is much better than in Air RB just because of the environment.
i mean j-7e is just a seal clubber lol, most fun air craft in game rn. definitely more of a seal clubber than something say the viggen just because its like a f-16 lite
