Sort of, the F-110A (F-4C) was initially produced by remanufacturing yet to be delivered F-4Bs and received them, with limited changes were made for the airframes received immediately post Operation Highspeed testing (USAF trialed F-4B vs F-106), as they were diverted from a partially complete upcoming USN order.
You can see the AAA-4 IR is listed as “deleted” with the first production lot of F-4C configuration (Blocks 15-25).
like i said, its the same aircraft but the air force removed the IRST in the nose and got them rewired for air force missiles (AIM-9B, E, J compared to the navy’s AIM-9B, D, G, H), or deleted it in this case, but the F-4B kept them for the navy and marines
This was not accomplished prior to delivery for the initially delivered airframes, and the systems were left in place to be later leveraged by the APR-25’s reuse of the fairing for placement of the forward array of antennas and the ASX-1 TISEO, the existing Antenna Slew automation.
It was the AIM-9B & had delivery capability of the -9D for USAF F-4Cs initially.
This was overturned with Modifications made to the F-4C that occurred alongside the deliveries of the F-4D, which transitioned them to the F-4D Falcon (from #64-929 thru-#64-989 post T.O. 1F-4D-508) Old’s had the Sidewinder capability reverted for select 8th Tactical Fighter Wing airframes. This caused issues with the higherups until part way though Vietnam, which began developments of the USAF derived Sidewinders once various reports were commissioned that highlighted issues with the F-4’s integration of the Falcon the -9J/-9P was properly rolled out for the Phantoms in late '72.
