Hi, I’m a fellow pilot who loves flying the F-20A, but I’m struggling with sim battles.
First, the radar. When I play in RB, my radar works perfectly. If it detects an enemy and shows a single line, I don’t even double-check it to confirm if it’s friendly or a foe. But in Sim Battles, it doesn’t identify targets accurately—IFF doesn’t seem to work properly. I keep locking onto friendlies and end up team-killing. Is this a common issue in Sim, or should I always double-check detected targets on the map or through pings?
Second, in sim battles, my RWR is completely useless. It only shows AAAs.
Hey mate, I don’t own the F-20 so can’t say for sure, but it might be the radar mode you’re using. You might have a different control setup for SB with something like change radar mode and the gear up on the same button, so when you take off it goes from PD to SRC or whatever it has.
Another thing could be that you’re not quite in the parameters to lock someone as cockpit view can be quite different from third person.
I have the f20 too and sometimes in rb when the teammates are close range to an enemy the radar tends to lock onto one of the teammates and have a hard time finding foe, but if this isn’t the case then I recommend forgetting about the PDV(pulse droppler velocity) radar mode that doesn’t have IFF(if im wrong on this correct me i only have 5 matches in the f20 so idk but ik the f4s doesn’t have IFF in PDV)so you can only use that for information as where the enemy might be, if these don’t work the I would recommend you: zoom onto the target you think is a foe and identify it with your own eyes if possible and the foe’s airframe isn’t an import(like the chinese f16) and you think ah thats a friendly and get your ass kicked(happened to me a dozen of times with the f4s tk someone bc i used pdv and the foe shoots me down bc I think thats a friendly too)
