i was bored so i was looking plane through plane and suddenly i used X-Ray in the F-15A and i saw it has a weird “radar mode” or smth called “RAM”.
anyone knows what it is?

RAM
Rapid Assessment Mode
iirc it is to select targets flying in close formation
why not all F-15s have it? the only one with it is the F-15A
Random Access Memory
i searched it and yes it’s that
Raid Assessment Mode (RAM): It is a feature of the F-15A radar system that allows it to simulate a pulse-Doppler search mode, but without the need to actively scan targets in real time. This allows it to monitor multiple targets without losing contact with other already detected targets.
APG-63: The APG-63 is a pulse-Doppler radar used in the F-15 Eagle, and the RAM mode was added as a software upgrade to enhance the pilot’s multi-target tracking capabilities.
so it’s basically a “TWS-”
I think it actually stands for “Raid Assessment Mode”?
It’s basically an early form of TWS, meant for tracking a very close formation of enemies that you’ve hard locked onto.
Quite a couple radars are actually meant to have it, but as the devs said in this bug report, they think it’s unnecessary if the radar has TWS already, so only the AN/APG-65 PSP on the F-15A and F-15J have it.
It can be activated in-game by locking onto an enemy and pressing the keybind for “Change Radar/IRST mode”, like this:
it looks quite useful, at least knowing F-15A has one of the worst stock grinds, and soft-locking enemies at 13.0 is a great advantage anytime
RAM gives a hard lock warning though, so it’s not that useful. Maybe unintended (because it’s tied to the STT mode, or historical). So in the end it’s a mildly useful mode for its intended purpose, to see if there are multiple targets near each other, and allows for some quick target switching in between them as well for target selection.
Scan rate appears to be extremely fast, comparable to ESA radars. However, you can’t change the scan field (locked to the very small 15˚x5˚), so it’s not particularly useful unless enemies are flying right next to each other (which, after all, was the intended use case of RAM in real life). It’s also subject to the usual buggy quirkiness that has plagued non-ESA TWS modes ever since TWS+ was introduced.
Alot of planes have tws at this br so it isnt rly an advantge (not saying it isnt usful)
U only have fox 1 so its used only for picking target and stsying on it until u fire
