F-15 Eagle: History, Performance & Discussion

Spoiler

i know this isn’t a source but i just think it might be interesting to see how DCS sniper A2A works like IRST at 14:40 https://youtu.be/6kJSN_uv810?si=XGDuFku6Lj-YXIPL

how can i perform better in the F-15A?

it feels pretty bad imo with all the supersonic fox 3 carriers and F-2 at same BR with AESA

ive also noticed my AIM-7 just not working in good shots (within 8km, target approaching)

I really want to be able to enjoy the F-15A

It is just really bad at the br

i really do like its energy retention and speed, but i find that its just really easy to die at the BR and sparrows will sometimes be pretty ineffective

I agree. The Eagle is nice to play (even the E even if it’s a bit fatter) but the 13.0 br of the A doesn’t really make it favorable because of compression. At 13.3 you have the MIG-29SMT with the best radar until the SU-30SM and R-77s + R-73s. In today’s top tier, agility is a niche thing at best.

aim95 and maybe an early HMS when :P

Never. Gaijob is thinks they’re too cool to add that

it gets mentioned in ADA498288 that they are functionally similar.

"The Marine Corps should equip its carrier-based F/A-18s
with the LITENING AT instead of the ATFLIR because the LITENING
AT is equally capable, less costly, and more quickly available. "

"The capabilities differences between the two pods are minor enough to be ignored
for the sake of this discussion. Therefore, the decision for or
against either targeting pod comes down to less obvious factors. "

Air to Air Search and Track is a function of the ATFLIR, ergo the LITENING AT has similar capabilities.

and, A/A detection and tracking is refenced directedly in the following brochure for the “AT” pod

But idk, gaijin can not accept thil like source.

They do tho

Sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t, it’s never a guarantee if they will accept stuff like it or not.

i would argue the f-2a has a better radar at 13.0, unless ur talking soviet only planes

Than the MIG-29’s SMT? Yea, but still. I’d choose a combo of 6 R-77s with R-73s over some Sparrows and AIM-9Ms any day of the week. I believe the F-2A has the best radar as the lowest br

@quartas121 why was the 15e limited to 500 rounds instead of 900

not sure but probably has to do with reinforcements and/or the avionics

It uses different store for ammo, no?

yeah an ammo belt box vs a barrel looking thing (F-15C/A)

2nd seat takes space

Actually this does bring up a question for me since the F-15E was not the first 2 seater eagle the F-15B and F-15D were the first

Do we have information showing the B/D had the same lower ammo count or is this something specific to the E variant? its generally hard to find information for the B/D since its less known but from what i can find they used the same ammo drum the A/C used but the E changed it with the belt box for whatever reason

Pretty sure there is a SAC for the TF-15A (early F-15B)

https://web.archive.org/web/20170620235242/http://alternatewars.com/SAC/TF-15A_Eagle_SAC_-_November_1974.pdf#page=3

It quotes 938 rounds, though it is likely that not all of them are usable, so it’s the same as the F-15A.
