Dr. Gaijinstein’s creature?
A tech mod said around the time of the Dev Server the in-game F-15A is supposed to be representative of an Air National Guard aircraft circa 1990. It’s still a frankenplane but that’s what the devs had in mind with it.
This is still stupid, AIM-7F, Turkey feathers…
This video is five days old, and the inlets are not moving. It’s a wrong. They’re supposed to move with any change in AoA (turning, for example)
I agree with you. That was what was said when people on the forums were pointing out the inconsistencies with the F-15s. At the end of the day, the devs were set to do a F-15A mashup frankenplane and (most likely) go all in on the F-15C, at least for the US.
I’m skeptical the F-15C will be accurate though given what was done with the F-14B.
At 4:05 in that video you can see the inlets articulate back up after he levels out at 4:08, they do move just at low speeds. I don’t know if they are supposed to move at high speeds though.
Also shortly after that when he stays in the low speed dogfight you get multiple visuals of the inlets pointing down.
I remember reading that when Japan did their demonstration of the intakes moving up and down they had to be at pretty low speeds and it was hard to make them move so much. I doubt they should move nearly as much at higher speeds.
Would make sense to me considering at high speeds you’re not pulling enough AOA in my opinion that you would need to direct the airflow.
At supersonic speeds, the inlets are in the up position at most, but move with the change in AoA. At subsonic speeds the movements are more noticeable.
They don’t do that in WT, it’s a big mistake.
If you can, it’s modeled well in DCS.
They were moving in the video you linked.
I don’t think so, it would need a better video, it must be moving all the time.
I would be surprised if the inlet movement is anything more than just an animation.
I fly the f-15 often the inlets do move.
i use the same camo :)
They are moving, slower than they should, but they are moving. What about at speeds above 1M?
I found that the first F-15s were armed with the AIM-7E because the F was not available.
I don’t know why you are so concerned with an animation on a plane you don’t even have. It’s a nice touch for the model, but the fact that they added it at all is a bonus, not some necessity.
In real world if the F-15 didn’t have variable intake geometry, not only would it not have proper air access to the engine, but it would also have more trim drag and worse fuselage flow. Variable geometry is the key to the performance and characteristics of the F-15. That’s why it’s important that visually it’s there, albeit with a bit of slow adjustment.
