The problem is… not the Phoenix as it appears in game. To compete with 120A/B armed planes just needs its “realistic” Phoenix missile.
Let’s say a F-14D at 13,3 -13,7 (i’m saying it because any other plane from 13,7/14,0 can be upgraded even more without replacing the plane, and it will heavily outclass the Tomcat… Meteor missiles for example, AIM-120C-7/D… Tomcat doesn’t take more upgrades.) with APG-71 and unerfed AIM-54C+/ECCM (sealed) and AIM-9M it will be a good plane… not extreme, not the best. But workable.
If they keep those Phoenixes by the same pattern it will be crap (but given the upgrade the Fakour was, i think they’ll bring the unerfed version for the F-14D) .
Sadly, I don’t think the F401s got any further than just being developmental testbeds on the original F-14B. The reliability was bad enough that the F-14B program as a whole was pretty much put on hold, with the later F-14C being cancelled.
Don’t get me wrong, an F401-powered Tomcat would be kickass to see, but I just can’t see Gaijin doing it (same for other airframes that served as engine testbeds, such as the F-16/101)
Would be a fine sqaudrona as it was a f14 that flew
It was, yes, but that could also mean the F-16/101 could be added (a very similar situation, fully weaponized early F-16 FSD airframe fitted with the GE F101 DFE).
In other words, I’d be fine with the F401 powered Tomcat, as long as we also got the F-16/101
It can be foldered even if the next plane is lower BR, we have stuff like that already.
yeah sounds fine im just suggesting it because a sqaudron tomcat wouuld be cool so people dont need to grind for it BUT BIG BUT F14D as sqaurdron IS A BIG NO as its the best f14 it should be a tech tree as giving everyone it would be cancerous
