F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

Hell no, unless they fix the phoenix (Aim-54C - 25G, lofting, smokeless) I’d rather keep the aim-9L and stay at 12.0 than facing teams of 13.0 aircrafts with 35-40G fox-3 missiles.

That’s one of the main things I was looking forward to with this update.

The proliferation of FOX-3s means the Phoenix is no longer unique or best in class, and can safely be buffed without raising balancing concerns. Provided it’s BR chances accordingly, of course.

It doesn’t seem like we’ll get the buffs this major update, unfortunately.

I will work for F-14B(U) in s∞n™ because it was not popular variants in F-14 family.

F14D will have it, not point for it now

F-14 Tomcat 1994 ~ 2006 armed AIM-9M

I’m not surprised F-14D mounted AIM-9M but very good radar because equipped AN/APG-71 radar

F-14D Bomboclatt

The final form of F-14 Tomcat

I dont think the F-14D will be particularly good at this point if gaijin doesnt fix the AIM-54C and the only improvement it offers weaponry-wise is an AIM-9M and AIM-7P tbh. The AIM-54C being modelled like utter garbage is really holding the platform back imo.

I am however excited about getting an F-14 with a good radar though.

12.7 would be enough for it. If they would decompress these planes that are coming, maybe 13.0

Id much rather they just actually fix the AIM-54C’s finally so that it comes as a compeititve aircraft vs the other fox 3 slingers, instead of a cool collectors item nobody should play if they want to be competitive.

The Bomboclatt can carry the AIM-120A and the AIM-9M so it kinda is 13.0 material but there should be some decompression

Its unclear if the super tomcat will get the AIM-120, it was test fired by the F-14A and is on atleast pne SAC for the F-14D, but as far as public info goes, it was never carried operationally because:

  1. It was considered too expensive to integrate into an airframe congress was trying to kill
  2. The AIM-54C was considered to be a very capable missile IRL and was more than good enough.

Unfortunately, 2. Doesnt translate to WT for whatever reason because even with more advanced missiles being added, the AIM-54C is remaining the exact same.

it will be great in sim

Pretty sad that Gaijin didn’t fix AIM-54s in ARH missile patches.

BTW, irl AIM-54A could pull 25G as well?

I just wonder because it has same airframe with AIM-54C.

Debatable. It doesnt have an HMD and if the AIM-54C’s arent fixed, itll be hopelessly outclassed in BVR. It would be good WVR but much harder to fly then other 4th gen jets, and its possible gaijin gives it very short ACM modes if nobody has specific sohrces stating otherwise because like the F-14A/B, the F-14D has a RIO who usually does almost all radar work irl, but thats not modelled ingame in any way.

Yes, gaijin just doesnt wanna give it 25g because they only model single plane maneuvers (as seen on russian missiles like the R-27ER) and the AIM-54’s always use dual plane maneuvering so gaijin “cant” (even though they could just give it 25g single plane in WT if everything flies single plane since itd have the same approximate effect)

And now working suggestion F-14D Tomcat ?

I don’t work for F-14D because it would come in the game sooner or later.

I’m more interested in the variants that people don’t pay much attention to than in the variants that are very famous.

There is a lot of ppl asking for the smokeless motor and I just wanted to point out that both the A and C variant came with the Mk47 or the Mk60 motors. the 47 burns with less intensity for longer, the C has reduced smoke, burns for less time but more intensly.

For the ranges we have in game, the 47 will perform better in every scenario. In DCS even though the mk60 will give you the most range, I’ll often opt for the 47 because its more consistent across the board, while the 60 doesnt perform well on medium ranges of ~40 miles.

Given that in game they have made the phoenix even more of a flying fridge than it is on DCS, the mk47 motor is the only viable option, unless you want your missile to have even worse range and performance than currently. If they ever fix the drag, notch resistance and its pathetic turn, then I’d also ask for the mk60 option even though I would probably opt for the longer burning mk47 with a larger " no escape" zone
