aim54 maneuverability feels damn near identical ngl
Played the F-14D for 4 hours yesterday in Sim mode.
The Phoenix buff is nice but it’s not game changing. Engagements naturally happen bellow the altitude where it would get it’s thrust buff so they still get notched since the Pitbull range went up to 18km from 16km
Maneuverability is nice close up and in quick off bore shots but too close just use a Sparrow
Speed does feel better at altitude but again not Fakour territory just better than before
All-aspect I couldn’t “feel” the difference, I’ve had many old phoenix rear/side aspect kills so maybe I just need to be in similar situations to notice it more
We should have a VF-84 for the A and VF-103 for the B
With the F-14D being introduced in this major update and the F-14B being brought up to a similar level of performance, when do you guys think we could expect a BR increase? Or does this only apply to the IRIAF F-14A…
Sarcasm aside, I’m still surprised the IRIAF F-14A remains at 13.3. Sure, it has the Fakour-90, but that’s quite literally the only thing going for it. It has an incredibly outdated RWR, the radar is a genuine joke, and while the flight model is actually quite decent, the countermeasure count in relation to the engine temperature is nothing short of ridiculous.
These are the disadvantages and advantages the F-14D has over the IRIAF F-14A (a plane 0.3 BR lower).
Advantages:
- Better radar (all-aspect and has NCTR)
- Has IRST
- Better RWR
- Better FM (thanks to the improved engines)
- Better IR missiles (AIM-9M vs AIM-9P, massive difference in performance)
- More countermeasures (380 minimum vs 60 on the IRIAF F-14A)
Disadvantages:
- Worse ARH missiles (Fakour-90 vs AIM-54C/C+, difference in performance reduced this update)
- Literally nothing else; this line is genuinely just filler, you can ignore it lmao
Yap aside, am I wrong for thinking this, or are my points valid? I haven’t actually played the F-14D or the F-14B, but I have played the IRIAF F-14A and, effectively, the F-14A. I also have most of the U.S. aviation branch of the TT researched.
I don’t really see how something like the F-14D, and maybe even the F-14B, sits at a lower BR with the improvements from this update. Both the F-14D and F-14B should be equal to or better in performance than the IRIAF F-14A.
In my opinion, the IRIAF F-14A should go down to 13.0 (my preferred choice) or both the F-14D and F-14B brought up to 13.3
Never. It’s a premium.
This deep dive is cool and I really respect the effort but Gaijin doesn’t balanced base on capability. They balance based on statistics like SL/RP gain and K/D.
They cant hide their p2w shittery at all anymore. More like why is it the same br as the f14b when it has irst and a better radar. Typhoons only got a radar change and they arent the same br
IRIAF can outplay its disadvantages with its missiles while F-14D cant. Taking 6 F90 can really stretch your capabilities beyond potential threats that you could find.
option 3: Give R-73s for the IRIAF. (my preferred choice)
With both the F-14B and F-14D getting aim-9M, it will probably be easier to convince gaijin.
As of now you might as well not bring aim-9P because they’re just dead weight.
Oh and i forgot to say this why didn’t gajin add the tws HDN for the f14D? Is it because its a premium
Lack of effort
If we were talking about the pre-Heavy Cavalry F-14B, then I’d totally agree. But with the major buffs to the AIM-54C/C+, I’d beg to differ. The maneuverability advantage of the Fakour-90 over all AIM-54 variants was minimised and effectively cancelled out, and the AIM-54C/C+, according to what was posted earlier in this topic, now has a superior seeker.
The only real advantage the Fakour-90 now has is acceleration. The missile is a boat (significantly heavier than the AIM-54), and thus slows down the firing platform. If you were to bring a loadout of six Fakour-90s, you’d barely be supersonic in any practical sense.
I still agree, however, that the Fakour-90 is superior to the AIM-54, but the advantage, again, has been reduced. That’s also not mentioning the fact that the IRIAF F-14A still uses the AIM-9P, a missile that can be found on 9.7 platforms.
This is the only part I strongly disagree with. The IRIAF F-14A can face threats such as the Su-30SM and Su-30MK2, one being a full BR higher while the other sits at the exact same BR. I’d furthermore argue that the Su-30MK2 is a decent amount better than the IRIAF F-14A as it’s not a unconventional one trick pony unlike the IRIAF F-14A (even though that trick can be quite nasty).
theres even a difference between these modes (normal TWS) in game?
Wdym?
Theres a difference between TWS and TWS HDN in game?
Yes, TWS HDN offers longer detection and lock range, but struggles if enemy flies from you or at an angle. TWS doesn’t have such weakness, but it struggles with range (even if it shows that TWS can lock at 100-80 km, on mechanical radars it might not even find anything at that range).
Ahh, particularly i’ve never experienced these differences, at least never noticed it, straight up used TWS for every situation
On some aircrafts difference in range is very big. The biggest example is Russian N019 and N001 radars. TWS on them finds stuff only at very close range, while TWS HDN works up to 80-100km without any problem
F-14A engines produce more thrust at altitude and speed than ones on the F-14B. If you accelerate to mach+ at lower altitude then climb you can get to favourable firing position very quickly. For BVR IRIAF is overall better thanks to its engines and missiles.
In my experience maneuverability is useless if not worst in most cases.
Yes providing the target is flying right towards you and the Radar can see it.
F-14 IR avionics alone should preclude it from being at 13.3 BR.
Fakour is a skill check missile, if you are Afk on discord chat or scrolling your phone it will kill you. If you know it is coming defeating it is rudimentary. They are rubbish at shorter ranges and at targets flying lower. That leaves you with the weird HAWK missile thing or the Weakest R-27 in game.
If those dont work well you always have a rear aspect only IR missile at 13.3…
Your competition all have all aspect missiles and at that BR you will see actual ARHM R-77/120s are common, along with digital RWRs and actual PD Radars that work.
Combined with your average flight model, terrible Radar and RWR and 60 cms the F-14 IR is a shambles.
