F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

Nope they said because its too similar to f14b, as if an all aspect radar wasnt important

Artificially limits the F-14D to be similar to the F-14B

Says it’s too similar to the F-14B

Irst at least?

Yeah it gets IRST atleast.

But also they removed the TGP view from the cockpit MFD when you aren’t carrying LANTIRN so TISEO/TCS is useless now.

It was basically useless before already with the lack of functionality and abysmal render distance

Yeah but atleast it was there.

Also the HUD is the complete wrong one and is also missing a gunsight so it’s even more crap for Sim.

The HUD is currently a placeholder, so they are working to correct it.

For a £70 premium you’d expect them to have the correct HUD, placeholder or not.

And at the very least the for them to make the HUD useable.

Agreed.

Yeah, the 2 things that made the phoenix mediocre at BVR was that it was easy to fool because of the headon only seeker and the lack of agility - in that order. Now that both are fixed/buffed, I don’t see why the IRIAF has to stay alone at 13.3 with aim-9p.

I don’t have the F-14D but it would be interesting to test in real conditions if the fakour is really better than the aim-54C/C+ now.

Fakour is still much better thanks to its speed

Because STILL the envelope of 54s is wrong!! Possibly too much drag since it can hit mach 5 in an unrealistic for F-14 launch scenario.
Seriously GJ can’t fix 1 thing in one patch… they need 10 patches in 2 years to do half the work. WIth ALL that info and data. And that’s an easy one, just adjust a value.

I got in played a bit in custom with 54s to see what they do now… alt-f4 for fast logout.
When they decide to make serious fixes to some things, fix their azzpull balance and azzpull vehicles and azzpull missiles and actually make a valid game mode for gameplay 3 games (not even) per week in Ground AB for fastest result and out.
Forum is the only interesting thing in this game atm. And it’s free!

So whats the actual issue exactly?

From what i understand (and others noticed too), 54Cs can hit the “according to data” 5 mach speed.
However, to achieve that you need a launch at 20km altitude and launch speed around 2500km/h.
Which are both unrealistic values for the carrier plane F-14. So it can’t ever any data within the known available data match that value , because there are outside of the plane’s capabilities. Couldn’t fly that high, or that fast loaded.
That means the rated 5 mach that we seeing as missile info , must have been from tests within the carrier planes envelope.
And since the game can recreate that value but with “wrong” values , if we assume that engine power is correct (especially with the changes now) means the drag of the missile is off. It works as it should , but 5km above the limit the plane could achieve and with a bit more starting speed that the plane could provide. Also , the buffed maneuverability resulted in the missile to be able to pull…handbrakes on occasions when the engine is on , which means it depletes energy more than it should "somehow " (drag how) , it’s not R-73 or MICA to pull such stunts even in imagination.
And as usual even videos and reports happened that something doesn’t work right but ofc they released it halfazzed.

Yeah but I’m gonna need some empirical evidence on it being still better.
I’m not convinced the speed alone makes up for the terrible maneuverability and the lack of all-aspect seeker. The ability to force someone to (properly) notch instead of going cold or turning vaguely sideways is a huge buff tactically.

I guess we’ll see at the next br changes.

I mean F90 got maneuverability buff too. Fin AoA got increased

Really? I only saw the iog buff and the distance gate.

Did F90 got distance gate and IOG buff? According to what data?

Yes, but i mean according to what data they made they change?
Just because the 54C that Iran never had got the buff they assume F90 should have it too?
