F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

I have a friend who’s pretty much quit the game and he still remembers that bug he quit a year ago at least

it was a 3v1 with no flares lmao

well the screenshot dosent tell that

tbf appolos teammate sold and i killed the fa18 right b4 this engagement so its more of a 2v1

man the f-14as missiles are so easily notched.

literally one chaffed

Oh that was you lol. I was pretty zoned out trying to finish up battle pass challenges, forgot I left my wings folded in manual and stumbled through toggling views

They’re amazing at range but the seekers are pretty bad, sometimes they won’t even hit a small AI target at a 45° angle, just won’t go active. You want to ideally target high flying people at ~60km. They come in so incredibly fast that people don’t have time to enter the notch, especially in low density air when the aircraft isn’t as responsive

Yeah deffo, I’ve died quite a few times to fakours at like 9-11km altitude cause it gets to you sooo fast with a late warning.

You basically gotta pre notch them

Also Northrop Grumman lists Mach 2.34 as maximum speed for all the F-14 variants (and Mach 1.2 SL):

With all the primary sources I’ve gotten do you guys think it’ll be enough? I mean just this alone should be enough for Gaijin but each time they find a way to wiggle out of implementing it.

What is the top speed in game when clean? Its probably about M2.34?

Nope.

F-14A breaks @ M2.25 and the F-14B slows just before M2.1. Now this proves that both should be able to at least hit M2.34 and rip at M2.4.

I don’t think it would rip at Mach 2.4 because haven’t you your self posted a f14 that had labeled Mach 2.5 and even said test pilots saying was capable of Mach 2.5 it was just reduced to Mach 2.34 for service life?

Oh yeah I’ve spoken to the 2 guys who flew the F-14D trials (OpEval) who claimed they took the F-14D to Mach 2.5 and still accelerating. I’ve also heard in southern California a test F-14A took it to melting at 2.6. I believe them. Gaijin only takes documentation for this sort of thing, so the F-14 would only be able to get to M2.4 per F-14B NATOPS. Although, with the 1.05 boost that gets us to 2.52 Mach, although Gaijin unfairly applies this buff to vehicles they like or dislike.

Oh okay…that’s dope you got to meet F14D pilots

Mmm then it just needs the rip limit adjusted.

I needed to get a bunch of “skill matters” rewards (kill players at 1.0BR higher than you) and so I actually brought out the Iranian F14 with my friend who uptiered me to 14.7 and it worked surprisingly well in the opening salvo, Typhoons and SU30’s aren’t used to facing fakour 90’s so they defended too late lmao.

Nice clutch btw

That isn’t the point, planes don’t break apart at their top speed just because of engine or airframe limits necessarily. That is just a feature of the game.

It’s strange because the document they used to model the speeds also says the design limits so…
