Yep they should also be banned. Either we allow balanced PD Radars or we remove them all together.
The F-4E is not on the same level as these upgraded F-4s

is there a bug that makes the awg 9 hold lock better in rear aspect?
yeah the meme is mostly true, but su30mk2s have a tendency to be hit from 50km aim54s lol
it would and the do ? the F14D does actually have the station for the DATA LINK of the AIM-7P which the F14B doesnt have hence why the F14B ingame doesnt have them
they wont give the B the AIM-7P as it doesnt have data link for it so it would perform same as a 7M
EGBU-24B too
??
Isn’t it the exact opposite in game.
Shi is terrible holding lock against anything rear aspect that’s going slower than u
We already have VSL mode btw.
Just no one use it because people mostly use PLM mode.
Also, VSL mode explain why F-14s never get HMS irl.
They didn’t want spend money for gimmick when VSL mode works fine.
Every A model had.
They are just not functional since mid 90s.
What happened was that the existing VTAS II (AN/AVG-8) helmet was designed with a 6~7.5G loading limit in mind, and with the move to a 9G capable platform(s) in the Teen series it was deemed too heavy and was found that it would injure pilots and so needed to have it’s weight reduced.
And the weight reduction program (VTAS III [AN/AVG-8A]) didn’t quite manage to hit the target or goal weights (for a number of reasons, partially technology / miniaturization , and otherwise the new donor helmet couldn’t be made lighter without compromising ballistic protection), and so wasn’t adopted for service though it was definitely tested.
I’ll attempt to answer both of you at once but I suspect it’s due to the core power of the AWG-9 still being apart of the radar. The high radar output makes target acquisition in rear aspect/SRC really easy even at higher ranges and aspects. Unfortunately due to missing systems and general radar capability, actually holding lock is like pulling teeth, and that’s against a target who ignores your presence/RWR.
Maybe I’m just bad at CAS but I find it impossible to take down the entry level SPAA littered around the start of the map. To even get close enough to get a safe launch at 1.1M you gotta get above like 5km where the clouds don’t let you see anything with the LANTIRN.
Also air combat seems pretty hopeless in the F-14B. Phoenixes don’t do anything as usual and I’ve had more sparrows intercepted by the OSAS(?) than hit my target. On the other hand the 27ER is crazy good and it’s very normal to get swarmed by MiG-23s and MiG-29s while your team dies around you. Surprisingly the Aim-9L has been my primary killer. Still haven’t even seen a strategic bomber yet :/
Any tips would be appreciated. I normally try spawning a bit further back for BVR then I go for an AA with my GBU III before getting close in for air combat around the middle of the map.
Edit: talking specifically about Nuke Thunder mode
My personal opinion I don’t think you need the lantirn pod I think the tcs on the f14B works just fine especially if you use the target point (I forget what’s it specifically called) and that if you or someone gets close enough most targets will appear another thing is I don’t think it’s worth CAS in any plane it better just to use the nukes it’s a lot better for grinding and taking out the enemy’s only thing regular CAS works on is the targets that are on the move and even than that’s could be meh.
As air to air I use two load outs x2 9L/bol pods x2 aim54 x3 aim7m(or even switch one of the aim7m for 9L/bol pod) or x2 9L/bol pods x4 aim54 x2 aim7m (I was thinking about trying out x5 7m with x3 9L but haven’t gotten the chance too) and do somewhat good in it as what I do is play defense and try to protect bases and ground units from people passing the front line and I go for them since they have to multi path or aa will get them and at times attack them from high up while they try to multi path. I learned is to try to keep distance from the front lines because AA will ruin a dogfight also I try not to get in close unless it just ends up happening I try to engage from 10 miles from targets and personally I think for this game mode as right now for grinding it better to get as much sp to get nukes to grind out the tech tree and the event or even SL, I think getting premium help tremendously. As for the strategic bombers I’ve seen a good amount it can help save you from a lost as I was in a match we were losing by a good amount but with teammates sheer will to keep on fighting And defending base someone got the strategic bomber bombed their main base and somehow we ended winning something we most likely would’ve lost not to mention the enemy team got like 2 or 3 of them and team mates downed them before they were able to release the nuke
Another thing about bombing with nukes is the sides of the map theirs no AA and usually no people so it’s pretty easy to flank and bomb bases or the long ranged AA so keep a eye out for that
Also are you getting matches at 13.0? because those wait times are crazy and I find more matches in 12.0 then I do in 13.0
Don’t wait in queues just keep joining and leaving until you join.
Ah okay

you never really realize just about where the F-14 was on the advancement of military tech until you look at all the missiles/bombs were tested on it
