I guess we will gets AIM-54C+ when F-14D comes.

To my knowledge, only the AIM-54C+ was authorized for use on the F-14D. Using the AIM-54A or regular AIM-54C was impossible on the D model because Station 3/6 doesn’t have coolant.

This mode should be add. Its will be great!

Do we know the status of the Iranian fleet at this point? I’m pretty sure I saw something about some airframes being attacked during the most recent set of strikes.

All F-14As confirmed destroyed by IDF were left behind for cannibalization as parts sources, and some tomcats still remain airworthy.

As per Designation systems’ the AIM-54 ECCM/Sealed entered service in 1986, where the -14D began airframe deliveries in 1991.

It even predates the -14B’s serial production (begins 1987), but overlaps the -14A squadron’s cruises (-14A’s last cruse occurs with VF-211, in 2004 off the USS Enterprise).

So I don’t think it is actually limited at least initially. Once AIM-54 stocks run low(as missiles age out of inventory) it may well have been restricted in order to reserve the capability but I don’t think this would have been a thing to start with.

I have read news that IRIAF is building F-14 decoys after the war so
i will see if i can find a picture

The key is coolant.

IIRC, D model had different AIM-54 launcher from A/B model, LAU-132 had fairing but, didn’t function as coolant, and that’s why AIM-54A/C wasn’t available.

A long, detailed documentary about the ACMID (Aim-152) and AGILE missile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5tYY9gIdbs&t=2474s

It’s gotten so bad I’ve resorted to looking for promotional stuff from Grumman on Ebay trying to find stuff about performance. (Through for-sale Grumman Brochures and Ads)

I’m finding it very hard to believe Grumman ever even said Mach 2.34 is the official top speed. They don’t have it recorded anywhere, yet it’s such a widespread, specific number. I’ll keep searching though.

Here’s some more cool stuff I found, none of it new.

isn’t it Mach 2.25

No, 2.34.

It’s not, a flanker can still lock someone flying away from you, a F-14 can not do it what so ever.

Except it can? HDN can hold a lock at target flying away from you, it struggles if there is an angle but other than that - it is capable.

Have you ever played tomcat?)
