F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

Why are you complaining then and misrepresenting my response at the same time?

Because it shouldn’t be that way.

So you didn’t say don’t get within (several) ~7km to dodge R-73s?

I never said to move away from the target, It’s much easier to preflare if you’re not moving in a straight line while approaching the target.

look we all have our moments when we are in our mig29s or su27s and we see a F-14 12 km away in a dogfight knowing the R-27ET we launch has a very good chance of hitting the guy which is strange cause you can not say the same thing with any other aircraft.

I can Indeed say the same thing about most other aircrafts, at least the ones without MAW

when i say in a dogfight i mean random chaff and flare coming out.
don’t be mistaken!

New update hit.
F-14 Early cannot equip AIM-54’s on wings and AIM-7’s on belly

I’m sure someone who knows more about the F-14 can confirm this; but I’ve seen it discussed on this forum before that those two under fuselage launchers contain the coolant needed for all six AIM-54 stations. So if AIM-54s are carried anywhere on the aircraft those two launchers must also be carried.

Only for variants of the AIm-54 that need external coolant, which wouldn’t be an issue if the F-14A wasn’t arbitrarily constrained to an “Early” (it isn’t) Configuration.

You sure about that?

It also affects the F-14B (tried both AIM54A/C’s)

Yes, it’s only not needed for AUR’s with the WGU-17/B and WCU-12/B, as such will only be found on the “AIM-54C ECCM/Sealed”, (production) variant which are not modeled in game, even though they could be refit to older Missiles as well.

And as we have a PGM equipt F-14B(U) it should have the option, as it post dates their introduction (1988) by a decade, in said configuration.

Thanks for all that info!

Guess there’s nothing to see here. Just normal USA pick and choose tech for whatever esoteric balance choices.

It’s so much worse than you think it is.

It’s amazing how they prioritize nerfs as much as possible but as soon as a buff comes through, suddenly they go radio silent.

That is a significant nerf for the US F-14 as you are now basically forced into either a full bvr or full cqc loadout. 4 Phoenix + 2 sparrow just makes you mediocre at both imo. (It was decent years ago)

Basically this change solidifies the IRIAF F-14 as the best tomcat in-game, lol. (which they still refuse to give its wing mounted fakour cuz reason)

F-14D can’t come soon enough.

Now F-14 are truely dead.

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

You seemingly are oblivious to what’s actually wrong. We know the change went through. It’s the fact the the stockgrind is now absymally bad. Because the Phoenixes are on the wings, the best loadout with them even with Aim-7E-2 unlocked is 2x Aim-9, 2x Aim-54A, and 1x Aim-7E-2.

It’s also bad that the priorities of Gaijin are changing this stuff when there are dozens and dozens of reports to bring the Tomcats and Phoenix to even 50% of it’s real life performance.

The tomcat in the WarThunder only has the PD PPS mode, although in real life there is a Target ASPECT Switch:

"ASPECT Switch
The operating range of the doppler filters can also be configured by the ASPECT switch on the same panel, NOSE sets 600 knots opening to 1,800 knots closing, BEAM sets 1,200 knots closing to 1,200 knots opening and TAIL sets 1,800 knots opening to 600 knots closing. This allows the RIO to optime the doppler filters for a known target closing speed and this affects the whole radar processing unlike the Vc switch which only affects the DDD.

The ASPECT switch controls the PRF of the Pulse radar. It can be effectively employed WVR to make the radar more resistant to countermeasures.
The ASPECT switch is a 3-way switch located on the right of the DDD. It has 3 possible positions:

NOSE;
BEAM;
TAIL.
If the target is aspect hot, setting the ASPECT to NOSE will make the radar more resistant to chaffs, which will be trailing behind the target.

Therefore, in addition to the PD PPS from the F14, I would like to get a normal all-angle PD.

They moved the 54’s to those front two stations with the coolant rails according to the changelog
