What’s so special about DMLGB+?
Of, what I know of other kits, an improved digital detector & seeker redesign (uses an actual detector array, instead of a defocused quadrant comparison seeker), lofting profiles and further increased GPS spoof resistance over the prior DMLGB kits (implements M-Code).
Finally, I got my hands on one of the oldest NAVAIR flight manual, one that doesn’t even mention distribution statement.
There is lot of things in this manual, that is not included to preliminary manuals from 1972.
Ofc there are no mention about TCS.
TCS?
Camera on the f-14s
I thought Tcs was on b and a only had irst?
It’s too early for that; the ?ALR-23?(don’t have confirmation of the designation, as it seems to share with the F-111’s IR rear quadrant MWS) would be the relevant system. And is known as the IRSTS.
Every F-14 valiants had TCS after 1982 or 1983 but, earliest F-14A(like first cruise) had IRSTs instead.
This image is what I posted in wiki xD
D had the IRST
I’m confused was the irst on b/d/a+ both a camera and irst or was the tcs and irst seperate systems
So 14d was the only one with both tcs and irst?
Also did the Iranian f14a have irst?
I would assume guiding in sparrows via irst would still trigger the cw warning on rwrs, but you wouldn’t get the symbol for f-14 on rwr right
yes you would
it is still an AWG-9 pointing at you
the radar is just steered by the IRST instead of the radar itself
If the irst guiding the cw beam still warns of what’s locking you… what’s even the point of guiding in via irst, might as well use radar
