New Gaijin video is just them dogging on the F-14s for 5 minutes lmao
I would say it’s obvious but the narrator and script guys normally have no idea what they’re talking about for any plane anyways.
“FINALLY The F-14s were retired” Like damn bro he really wanted them gone… Acting like they weren’t carrying the hornets on their backs with their better avionics systems and LANTIRN pod during all it’s missions.
There are a bunch of myths being touted as fact in this video, both in the case of the F-14 and F/A-18, I cant say that I am surprised given the quality of gaijin’s research as of late.
Heck, half of the statements about the F/A-18 are myths or PR statements, and I like the F/A-18.
Everyone knows that the F-14 was canned because of political disputes in Washington, not capabilities or cost.
I liked when they talk about fuel efficiency being bad on the F-14 but the F-14A with no tanks has better loiter time than the superhornet with 3 tanks.
Tbf F-14 was a maintenance nightmare (compared to hornet) and I can understand why some people didn’t want it anymore. If a good chunk of your fleet are hangar queens then they may as well not exist. Dissolving of USSR didn’t help Tomcat either imo.
The F14D and F-14B(U) had around 27-30 hours of maintenance per flight hour at the end of their service from 2001-2006. The F/A-18Cs and Superhornets at the time had 41 hours per flight hour. And later upgrades of the F-14 would’ve gotten this lower.
It really wasn’t. Political scapegoating made the price seem like it was out of this world when not only were prices not that much higher, but the payoff for the performance was worth it and would continually be more worth it the more the F-14 was upgraded into ST-21.
It’s was mostly political as Grumman was personally hated by Dick Cheney who also had his and his friends stocks in the Superhornet program.
The US would’ve been better off if they kept the F-14. The demise of the F-14 also took down long range AAMs and high-powered heavy fighters from the Navy. A huge loss of capability for the entire navy and airforce.
