F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

For sure, The main con of the F-14B for me was the radar.

The APG-71 will be warmly welcomed.

Perfect timing Heatblur launches the F-14B(U) preorders. Less than the WT F-14D and 10x better quality.

Why did you get it? im also a fanBoy for the tomcats but this is a disgrace for us who love the f14 and they couldn’t bother to add the AIM-9M for it if you guys buy this plane its a slap to the face for us because we dont complain enough Chinese players get what they want and same with russians nato players are the only ones that suffer the consequences

Im not going to buy the plane even tho its the same as a f14B but with a better radar, but in the future i hope it gets fixed and gets its full weaponry

Im going to grind for this F14B instead in Wings of glory(roblox)

With the update adding a new LANTIRN TGP screen they’ve now made it so TISEO has no use in the cockpit on the F-14B, it’s now only on the F-14D.

Im weak I guess, Just going to hope for the best that they fix the Phoenix, give it AIM-9M.
And AIM-120D.
It’s unreasonable if they don’t, They have to do it, Though the hate they have for the F-14 is becoming legendary now.
I wonder why they keep giving it badass Top Gun promotion videos in the update trailers.

Do you mean aim120A?

no-i-don't-think-i-will
I won’t do that unless they add a TT variant and give it a better loadout

And more than likely going to be a cheaper price and also better made than the F-14D Gaijin are adding.

You need F-14A/B module tho

yeah wrote wrong, at the same time which version would it have had if it got the AIM-120 at the time the aging phoenix was retired at 2005? Wasn’t the C out already?

No usually mean yes in War Thunder Communication.

They said no top tier premium, and we got this.
In contrast, look at the P-61’s turret locked to shoot forwards feature. “In War Thunder, we plan to introduce this function a little later in the form of a researched modification.” -(P-61: The American “Flying Tank”, 20 February 2016).

It would get Aim120A. It can get Aim120C but I don’t think it would because I think radars needed a update to use Aim120C even if they where aim120A/b capable ( if remember correctly) and theirs people who don’t want a Aim120C to overshadow the aim54 plus the br rating of aim120C is 14.0 so it would make the f14D to 14.0

F-14D AN/APG-71 Single Target Track(STT) Datalink Capability for Aim-7P?

I am looking for any documents that prove the AN/APG-71 has STT Datalink Capability,
the 71 shares parts and module commonality with the AN/APG-70 on the F-15E and the AN/APG-73 on the F/A-18C,
Clearly the AN/APG-73 has this capability, would it not make sense that the AN/APG-71 have this same capability, after all they are all Digital PSP radars?
Until we can provide a document proving it has STT Datalink Capability it will not receive the Aim-7P, as referenced by the recent bug report denial
Denied Bug Report: Community Bug Reporting System

I have already looked into the most up to date NATOPS for the F-14D but it obviously has the AN/APG-71 section Redacted in the Weapon Systems Chapter

@ItzMikeyzWRLD-psn is this true? I thought the APG-71 was fully capable with the 7P

So apart from the disappointing loadout…
I have just now had some time to test out the radar and IRST in the Dev. Here’s what I’ve found so far from the same questions I had before

Radar
Range: TWS ~86km but very unreliable kept dropping the soft lock, most I got was 96km with SRC PD HDN in contrast AWG9 picked up 106km with out a hiccup and I was running out of test flight map
Modes: TWS, SCR PD HDN, SRC PVD HDN, TWS GMTI, SRC PD
ACM range: 19km with same vertical scan patterns as AWG9
NCTR & Launch lead indicator: Yes
Aim7P capable: I guess we’ll see…

IRST
Scan area: 30x30 degrees FOV, Manual gimbal of -70 +30 Vertically and 80 Horizontally either side. Once a target is locked it’ll hold the lock in the entire 70x80 box
Detection Range: (could only test against mig15 from the test flight) 27km rear aspect, 15km front aspect Although once locked the IRST has a shaded “lock range” that stops at 30km Would have to be tested against an afterburning jet
IR Camera: Yes but only in cockpit and does not have the same gimbal as the IRST tho, its about a 40x40 degree FOV and you loose camera view lock (Exact same FOV as TCS on 14B)
Launch Capabilities: IR Only While Locked the IRST does give you launch range for all missiles and you can manually switch between Radar and IRST but Radar lock only auto changes between TRK PD, TRK PD HND, and TRK to keep lock at noching angles.
