Phew. Thought the f14 had been fully snailed for a sec
I’m finding it very hard to believe Grumman ever even said Mach 2.34 is the official top speed. They don’t have it recorded anywhere, yet it’s such a widespread, specific number. I’ll keep searching though.
Here’s some more cool stuff I found, none of it new.
isn’t it Mach 2.25
No, 2.34.
It’s not, a flanker can still lock someone flying away from you, a F-14 can not do it what so ever.
Except it can? HDN can hold a lock at target flying away from you, it struggles if there is an angle but other than that - it is capable.
Have you ever played tomcat?)
have about a hundred games in IRIAF, why?
Idunno.
Because to say such a dumb thing you have to either be very “smart” or just never touched it
Sure thing, dumb thing lol. I guess game was gaslighting me by showing a hard lock on the enemy while i actually didn’t had it.
I checked and it’s actually 241 games lol.
Tbf, IMO isn’t HDN technically can lock against target flying away from you? Technically it’s still HDN lock if you are slower than the enemy that are flying away from you, there’s a reason they’re called “HPRF” while normal PD called MPRF.
in theory yes
but there are (almost) no cases when that will happen in wt.
very “smart” or just never touched it
you dont need to be slower than the target
HPRF can lock a target flying away from oyu without issue
Fair enough lmao.
To truly get that lock, you would have to have such a high closure rate that you’re going close to Mach 1 and the other guy is basically stalled. (Or vice versa) Hardly a normal engagement.
I guess game just gaslights me then with locks, what else can I say? I had more problems with Sparrows/R-27s not giving me solid lock during chase than actual radar tbh.
The F-14 radar is indeed atrocious when trying to detect or lock targets flying away from you. Especially at those Battle ratings when virtually every other aircraft have All aspect PD radars…
Sometimes when chasing someone I like to use my airbrake to force a high negative closure rate and get a solid lock. It can be a neat trick in the right situation.
He’s not wrong though. PD HDN is a misnomer, it just needs high target speeds relative to the launch aircraft, either positive or negative. Beaming targets always tend to have relatively low speeds, but targets flying away from you that are either gaining distance or losing distance at a relatively rapid pace can be locked just fine.
why are you comparing the first truly bvr capable radar to the AESA radar on the raptor lmao
