F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

yes that is true

my point is (which i probably should have made clearer) that the radar isnt that important with a missile like the sparrow as long as the radar is compatible with it and the missile was integrated with it

It depends on the Radar’s implementation the Guidance waveform, either as with the F-4’s that use a dedicated FM-CW Illuminator that supports the AIM-7C~E & -7F, or the Later integrated PD-ILL waveform which supports the -7E-4 ,-7F, and later variants.

Does somebody can check current AIM-54s Station 1/8 drags in the game?

I assume current drags are too low.

Also can you see if the F-14 mounts the AN/ASA-63 or -83? “SEAM programmer” I know its got one, I just don’t know which. But it impacts which pattern it uses.

Implementing “Sidewinder Expanded Acquisition Mode” (SEAM)

Difference in SEAM patterns

The -63 produces a “Double D” pattern

The -83 uses a more efficient (uniform polling rate) “spiral” slew pattern.

F-14B/D firing IR BOL countermeasures. Looks a lot bigger than ingame…

Because BOL is fundamentally incorrectly modeled ingame

They don’t dispense a single flare, they dispense a lot of sparks which create an “ir wall” between you and the missile

No info from -1 manual. Weapon stuffs are included to -1A manual.

Not even the name of the installed systems? I wonder if there is any HUD footage from the Gulf of Sidra Incident(s) as I’m pretty sure Sidewinders were used there, an may be able to intuit it.

Yeah, literally no infos in -1 manual.

Also, 1989 Sidra Incident footage was TCS, not HUD.

That shot infront of the thunderstorm is so damn cool

Actually we have alot of coverage of AIM-7F and AIM-54A as well as F-14 in the national archives.

I have no faith but here we go again: Community Bug Reporting System

Aren’t they increasing max g pull at high speed next update? Also, what fuel load is that at? Air craft g limits become higher at lower fuel loads. I bet at close to empty f14 can sustain 13 or 14 Gs fine

Empty F-14 can only get to 12G to my knowledge. In a dive you can get to 13G for a second before it snaps, but that’s about it. It’s also stuck at 11G with the wings forward.

mind you this is the same game where aim 9ls change lock if they see a missile .

I remember the good old days when you had to cut AB to flare the 9L

F-14’s G pull increase is noticeable. Turning at Mach 1.3-2 is massively better and high speed merges feel a lot better.

I think they broke the Aim-54s loft though. I couldn’t get them to loft for the life of me in testdrive.

Also, fuel dumping to 1% fuel is a lot of fun for the Tomcats. Especially because you can merge while dumping fuel and still remain effective due to being able to turn and burn.

Stability isn’t better at extreme AoA, but it is massively delayed and only starts yawing when you get to the peak. Still, that’s more than it should be.

Update: Single Pops for the A models are amazing. Makes them a lot more fun to play now that I can carry 15 chaff and 45 large flares.

Decent update for the Tomcats. Atleast we got something. Praying for an F-14D next major.

If it isn’t a bit bigger than the AWG-9
