Expanded List of Indonesian Vehicles - Air

Thats good my fear is she was going to be a Mitsubishi X-2 Shinshin and we cant have her

AFAIK last year the Indonesian side has reaffirm its commitment to buy 48 KF-21, and might sign the contract for 16 KF-21 either later this year, or next year.

It was in a comment by their FB handler, to be fair we only sign the LoI for M-346, so any change to the plan is expected

the Mindef wanted ~600 trillion rupiah for the this fiscal budget, was denied by the finance ministry (was given ~193 trillion). So now the mindef wanted it to be ~300. This is a massive cut so not that surprising

what I dont like is its alternative, personally Id rather just go back to the T-50 rather than the L-15 (supposedly, maybe not entirely true who knows).

Another aspect is this thing is supposed to be one of the “Pelicin” for the Garribaldi (basically additional stuff to make the bigger deal go smoothly). What would be its alternative? Is the Italians happy with just two pelicin rather than 3? There’s a lot of factors to consider

There are several other potential Italian stuff floating in the rumours, mostly naval stuff though

Looks like a Su-27SKM (old number TS-2704, new number T-2704) has been spotted with the new splinter camo scheme, similar to the ones applied to two Su-30MK2 last year

EDIT: The air force has just officially uploaded the photos themself

It’s actualy the insignia used by aircraft stationed at Iswahyudi AFB. It dates back to the 1960s & 1980s 300th Wing, which were used by MiG-21F, F-5E/F, and A-4E.

The 300th Wing was later reformed into 3rd Air Wing, and recently as 32nd Air Wing. They use the insignia that are still used today. It’s applied on the F-5E/F, F-16A/B/C/D, and T-50i of 3rd, 14th, and 15th Air Squadrons. It’s also used retroactively on preserved MiG-17 and MiG-21.

Conflicting reports that a contract for the M346 is to be signed in July

aerospace company PT E-Systems, which has been tasked to acquire new generation trainer aircraft in its role as an authorised Indonesian defence contractor. PT-E Systems Solutions will support maintenance, logistics and tactical flying, as part of the TNI-AU’s new Air Warfare Centre that is being created.

According to a senior PT E-Systems management source ‘the company will also integrate its own Indonesian designed Self Protection Jammer, integrate and qualify the Diehl IRIS-T short range air-to-air missile, integrate an indigenous data-link for targeting and cueing distribution, as well as an indigenous light MK-V Delta cruise missile.

The source continued, ‘PT E-Systems Solutions will also participate in flight testing and in the qualification of Leonardo’s new ITAR-free Airborne Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Grifo E600, using the company’s own flight test bed.’

This will make the M-346Fs more capable than the 23 surviving TNI-AU F-16C/D Block 52s equipped with the older APG-68 (V) radar, acquired between 2012-18.

The M-346 procurement plans are certainly an ambitious programme, that will see the Block 20 being used in a more capable operational role than in Canada and Austria. A contract is set to be signed by Leonardo and PT E-Systems Solutions on behalf of the Indonesian Ministry of Defence in Jakarta during early July, for the supply of 12 M-346Fs for delivery by early 2028 to replace the surviving BAE Systems Hawk Mk 109/209s delivered in the 1990s. A second tranche of 24 will be contracted in February 2027.

TLDR =

A contract set to be signed in Early July (12x units to be delivered by early 2028), plus extra 24x units to be signed in February 2027.

  • for the M346, PT. E-System Solution will integrate:
    • Indonesian Self Protection Jammer
    • IRIS-T Missile
    • Indigenous data link system
    • Indigenous Light MK-V Delta Cruise missile
ESS' Light Cruise Missile photos

Indonesia Military News Observer on X: "Delta Mk-X Family of Light Cruise Missile dari E-System Solutions Katanya akan di ujicoba di Indonesia Tahun ini https://t.co/Z3KWLiC9Hy" / X

worth mentioning this came from a source inside PT ESS, it could very well just a spokesperson trying to calm the rumor or something like that

dont know if its worth mentioning since this is old news, but the MiG-29 Agressors modification includes EW system, IRST, & an AESA radar. It will be entirely modified by PT E-System Solutions MRO team in Indonesia.

Alongside DELTA Q-EW drones, a manned component of #GriffonAgressors services will be constituted by an initial fleet of highly modified 6 Mig-29C/UB, which are going through a complete overhaul and upgrade modification program involving EW, IRST, and AESA radar.

Mig-29C/UB Aggressors aircraft will start IOC first Quarter 2026. Mig-29 aircraft are entirely overhauled by PT E-System Solutions MRO team based in Indonesia.

Since the team to modernize the jets is based in Indonesia, and the company thats conducting the modernization is technically Indonesian (since it has PT), I think its somewhat plausible enough for an addition. Not likely? sure, but maybe just maybe a bit tangible enough to consider? Obviously we gotta wait untill it materializes but still an interesting thought

what on earth is the mig-29c. never heard of that sub variant

Its a russia traduction problem.

Mig29C is mig29s in english which probably means 9.13s

TNI AU pilots might fly the MiGs too

Ah now it makes sense. A local “defense consultant”, which also frequently posts about this kind of stuff, said last month that the MiG-29 might be sourced from Belarus. Belarus also operated the MiG-29 9.13

i mean it makes sense, its ESS

if its Republikorp = product is either Turkey, Czech, Qatar

if its ESS = either UAE or Belarus

the M346 is actually a bit of an outlier since its Italian, not eastern-bloc

Indonesia has completed its final payment for the KF-21 program, this mean there’s a high likelyhood that one of the prototype will indeed be sent over to the country

[BizKorea] It has been confirmed that Indonesia has completed the payment of its share of the joint development costs for the Korean fighter jet KF-21. With the long-standing dispute over cost-sharing between Korea and Indonesia effectively coming to an end, this is expected to have a positive impact on future negotiations for the Indonesian Air Force’s purchase of 48 KF-21s.

Another key thing mentioned in the article:

According to a combination of local Indonesian sources and domestic reporting, a significant consensus has reportedly been reached regarding the purchase price and introduction schedule for the KF-21. However, internal budget coordination within the Indonesian government remains. It is understood that the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) are currently discussing financing methods for the KF-21 purchase. Another variable is the fact that, due to the nature of Indonesia’s defense acquisition projects, both foreign loans and domestic procurement budgets are required.

If internal government consultations proceed quickly, there is a possibility that the budget for the KF-21 purchase will be finally approved around the third quarter. However, the timing of approval could be delayed depending on the method of budget procurement and the results of inter-ministerial coordination. Nevertheless, with the payment of the joint development contribution now complete, it is assessed that negotiations with Indonesia for the KF-21 purchase have entered a more advanced phase than before.

KERIS also held a impromptu Q&A for the MiG-29

here’s some takeaways =

  • 12 units total
  • will be incorporated into their own designated temporary squadron (brand new)
  • will be placed at either Makassar or Madiun
  • will be unveiled at October 5th 2026
  • NO ARMAMENTS, itll purely be for dogfight training
  • will be flown by Indonesian pilots
  • contract for the squadron is for 8 years

Since Mig-29 Aggressor would be rented and operated by Indonesian Air Force pilot, do you guys think it could come in TT? because F-16 in Italian TT also a rented from the US Air Force

I think yes!, because that mig 29 is kinda unique i think,an AESA Radar and better EW system. but the problem is indonesia only rent the mig 29 without their armament.

for armament i think it’s already an exception for aircraft much like Heli, case point is Kh-38MT in Malaysian Su-30MKM
Yak-141 prototype also never given any armament whatsoever but it’s in WT with Missile, Bomb and Rocket anyway.

I think it depends, if the MiG retains the weapon pylons then I can see see it as a possible addition

but its not exactly the same scenario as the Yak 141 since it was meant to be produced as a fighter and was tested with inert missiles and mockup ones, it just wasnt fully finished and got canned instead

for loadouts on export nations it also doesnt really matter since if the aircraft can carry them, then they can get them, doesnt matter if it wasnt purchased nor used

Ministry of Defense: Indonesia Not Producing the KF-21 Jointly, But Buying Directly from South Korea

The Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) has revealed that Indonesia is not involved in the joint production of the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet with South Korea. However, Indonesia will acquire the fighter jets through a direct purchase scheme from the South Korean government.

The government stated that the process is still at the exploration and advanced negotiation stage. “We need to convey that the plan regarding the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet is currently still in the exploratory stage,” Rico told reporters on Friday (3/4/2026).

This statement was in response to news that South Korea was ready to deliver 16 KF-21s as requested by Indonesia. He added that the contract’s implementation is highly dependent on the state’s budget and the results of the TNI’s operational needs assessment.

so no manufacturing for us, which makes sense because of the reduced obligations. Still nothingburger of an update but it is an update nevertheless

At least this means prototype transfer will be soon. Maybe this can still mean Indonesian weapons integration for “IF-21”, even if it’s not co-produced
