In most cases, I don’t think they am 9M is reaching that far anyways
No. Not often at least. But ive had dozens upon dozens of times the target was not just in range according to the radar. But in the fricking LSZ, but nope. No lock until practically touching the min range.
Aim-9Ms work best being fired from 2-3km in my experrience. If you cant always lock that far out… then it sucks, as it doesnt have the performance to work within 2km most of the time.
This is just a game issue. This happens with most if not all missiles.
Few have pending lock ranges buffs that are as significant a difference as the Aim-9M currently is as far as I am aware.
3km to 14.45km front aspect lock range is major. (against AB targets)
(only other that comes to mind is buffing Britains Aim-9Ls to the same figures)
source?
kinda unbelievable on early variants were introduced in the 80’s same as Magic-2
(R-73 in 1989 - but with 1977 basis in technology)
maybe those AIM-9M were latest ones, with the WGU-4E/B and not the previous WGU-4/B

Bug report
You can read Flame’s explanation on the dechirping here:
ah, yes: the “chirp”
fact is that US aircraft would have AIM-9M chirped when UK ones does seem a bit extreme for in-game purposes ^^"
but i do still agree that the current chirped AIM-9M in-game shouldn’t be 3km All-aspect lock range (with 35 pw/cm -2), those IR intensity should be seen far sooner around 4.8-5.2km (eyeball estimates)
I dont beleive any Aim-9M were “chirped”
Only the 9L and Britain “disabled” that. Would be a niche but nice buff for stuff like the Tonka
The problem is to have more information on any WGU-4/B variants.
(this is the guidance unit for AIM-9M’s, which get variants for the different AIM-9M variants, up to the WGU-4E/B)
On the grounds that I dont think the Aim-9M is based upon any specific variant and there is no other sources for the Aim-9M lock ranges for any seeker then this is about as good as it gets with wise to information for accurately modeling Aim-9M.
Though I dont think any Aim-9M variant was chirped unless you have a primary source stating that
The MICA is stated to be a 100km range missile by a primary source, a range which it can’t achieve currently in-game.
Class,… not range (at least on my knowledge)
if it could reach publicly advertised 80km range, it would be fine.
It specifically states range, doesn’t say range class.

somehow very far from 100km (that would be reached on MICA NG EM on the following source stating +40% range compared to actual MICA)
yourself you said MICA EM 80km with 3 sources that we can’t access anymore:
so i’m curious to see an actual source stating that MICA-EM (non NG) can reach 100km.
because, we all know that MICA and MICA NG doesn’t have the same mass of propergol
Wait the NG can do 100km?
The IR version can yes.
is EM slightly better since it is more aerodynamic?
Idk if it’s “slightly” but yes it features more range due to more aerodynamic seeker.
maybe 10-15km more?
In one source the range between MICA NG EM and MICA NG IR was said to be a difference of 30km
