Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

This might be the thread to ask in, given apparently EFT has BOL (?) dispensers, but what type of countermeasure is BOL? Trying to respond to someone in the Rafale thread, but I am far too asleep to remember equivalents to it, from Russia or the West. Can’t find the other threads unfortunately, and BOL might get unfucked if it is Integral to EFT. I would note I am very asleep and may not have read how EFT’s CMs are accurately. Sorry if my reading has ended up skewiff.

Thanks, hopefully I can find equivalents to respond to them with.

Yeah, I was trying to find what type of CM it is, given it is effective against more advanced missiles. Appreciate the help, I shall continue my eepy quest to find equivalents.

Its already in game on multiple aircraft. Tornado F.3/ADV/Late, Harrier GR.7, Gripen (all), JA-37, F-14B.

They are a pyrophoric liquid in a packet, as the packet breaks open as its dispensed the material spreads out similar to chaff and then reacts with the oxygen in the air to produce IR emissions. Most of the energy is only in the IR spectrum and very little is in the visible light spectrum.

Aye, I know it is in game on stuff. But folks are arguing against missiles in the thread so looking for things like it to show there are available CMs to enable these newer bits of kit getting added. So got to see if there’s stuff for aircraft that aren’t equipped with it, or able to carry it, that can defeat these more modern threats. Know BOL is one of them, so first thought was to look for things like BOL. Now I know what BOL is better, I can start the search.

Cheers.

Please say me that Typhoon F.2 is better than German Tranche 1

Well here is the product sheet;

Thanks.

And here is it dispensed at night by a Typhoon

Note: You can see it, as cameras seep into IR sectrum

Yes they do, but Chemring quote as “virtually unobservable” so there is a small amount in the visible spectrum.

But in this case it is still more than waht human would see

Yes ofcourse

So I am incredibly tired, but couldn’t modern flares also achieve similar efficacy just in a less space efficient form factor? Incredibly sleepy, so my usual wit is quite departed by now. Obviously with a number of them being thrown. Forgot this bit.

I am going to pass out and review this when I’m awake.

Spectral flares are good for matching the wave length of the aircraft dispensing them yes. But they aren’t spatially distributed (a big cloud) so modern IIR missiles can sometimes detect a regular flare thanks to the usually spherical shape. Where as BOL can appear to look like a large IR target like an aircraft.

any chance of BOL flares functioning this way in-game?

They could probs model them using IR smoke from tanks with an adjusted size/duration, just remove the visual effect from it tbh

No news on that front sorry.
