and assuming that lock ranges aren’t capped at which point the Typhoon’s 6x ASRAAM + 4x AMRAAM would be superior to the Rafales 6x MICA EM/IR
same for 6x Iris-T + 4x AMRAAM imo
In terms of short to medium range “BVR” (like say around 20km) no. But if we are talking about WVR combat then yes
My response to his comment was that AESA alone in the current state of the game wouldn’t still overshadow the fact that the Rafale has a better kit for the current meta, I wasn’t considering better missiles when responding to his argument.
AFAIK MICA IR has datalink and LOAL, so lock range shouldn’t be limited …
ofc it wont be better than the mica in every aspect
but it does where an IR missile matters the most for me in WVR
Again, Assuming thata is modeled and that they dont hard limit lock ranges for gameplay/balancing reasons which I could very easily see them do (much like they have done for AGMs)
Also, ASRAAM should have LOAL
If it means they can add the F-22 go for it.
Why?
Typhoon with an AESA still won’t be better than su-35/f-15ex just due to missile kit
What does f-22 have to do with aesa typhoon, a better equivalent would be f-15ex
He is implying an AESA Typhoon would be a step to high, so it means the game would be closer to 5th gens being a decent idea. (Decent, not great.)
US 4.5 gens exist
I think a proper comparison (and the way it will happen in the game) would be a separate higher BR Typhoon with AESA and better missiles vs later Rafale with better missiles
Su-35, J-16 and F-15EX would also be in the same league
who is “he”?

“,” are things in English that split ideas in the same sentence.
Yeah, no not really. If CAPTOR-M cannot be properly added, then CAPTOR-E just brings the Typhoon inline with the Rafale and Su-30SM we already have.
Let alone suspected additions like the F-2 for Japan this major and we have no idea if a AESA equipped fighter for the US, Sweden or China is planned for this major.
The Typhoon, which is already struggling in temrs of radar modeling, could be about to be left completely behind for no other reason than Gaijin hating the Typhoon
On that I agree, having a newer and more reliable missile kit for the jets you mentioned would definitely make for a better comparison, guess only time will tell when we see those added.
But if I’m not mistaken not as much (kinematic) range as IR MICA, let alone IR MICA NG
Plus, as good as ASRAAM’s maneuverability might be, I doubt it will beat MICA (et al.)'s thrust vectoring at close ranges …
Not far off and ASRAAM maintain better time to target iirc
We can assume that wont be added for a while and by the time it is, we should have better AMRAAMs as well
Ultra close range, no. ASRAAMs biggest strength being its speed of its rails does limit its ultra close range performance, but if you are playing a Typhoon with ASRAAM in ultra close range WVR combat, then you are playing it wrong. IRIS-T equipped Typhoons though will outperform MICA IR in WVR combat by quite a bit and as we have seen with teh Typhoons A2G payload, we have no idea if ASRAAM and IRIS-T will be nation specific or if everyone will be able to take a mix
