Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

MAW update. it appears to not understand SARH and tries to flare it.

There’s a few secondary sources in english, Can’t find anything primary in english though.
Basically the IRST had the IR channel removed in exchange for a better TV sensor (OSF-IT) in the F3O4T standard (one before the F3R standard), IRST returns with the F4.

Tbf might be bad translations, but Ive seen talk about MICA-IR and the new TGP the F3R got being used as IRST around the same time frame, which would be an indication to a kernel of truth.

Basically the reason for me not writing a bug report, I don’t have the french skills to investigate further, nor do I feel the need to get something nerfed for petty reasons, I just honestly found it amusing that we have Rafale-bros trying to own the eurobros with their own goal wide open. Ive got little to no skin in this argument, with the EF radar issues Ive been working on italian ground and french air lmao.

Don’t know if it’s a bug or intentional but losing both your canards seems to make you lose control of your entire aircraft. Rest of the aircraft had some light damage. Both canards got knocked off and it wouldn’t respond to any inputs

It wouldn’t be petty, feel free if you have any informations but as far as i get, each time, f3r + no irst was mentionned in the rafale thread there were explanations that it was false.

Not entirely suprising given the fact they are your primary control surface.

Its like loosing your tail in a conventional layout aircraft

Not true, it was there on F3R standard for both domestic and exports having all the bells and whistles.

Should read the Rafale thread, it’ll answer your questions

The argument is that OSF-IT did not have an IR channel. The image you posted does not confirm or deny that.

The OFS upgrade that removed the IRST was OSF-IT, Oh lookie there

It’s as far as I can tell misspelled, but there lmao.
(Should be Optronique Secteur Frontal / OSF, with the upgrade removing it being called Optronique Secteur Frontal - Improve Technogie).

The easy (and best) solution as far as I’m aware is just to rename the F.3 in game to F.4 (early) as feature set wise it’s only really missing pylons and some weapons.

No one tell them about the Yak-141’s IRST

We are, as always, fully aware the Yak.141 is a vague fantasy as depicted in game.

Interestingly, I did look into the Rafale’s F3R primary documents, it does not confirm usage of IRST and makes multiple mentions of only the TV sensor, so I will have to look further into this and report it if it’s confirmed not to have an IR channel.

IR channel was removed on later batches of the F3 standard for OSF-IT. However, the devs have modelled the IR channel in game so we have an earlier F3 batch.

Yes, it is confirmed earlier batches of F3 standards contained both IRST/TV channels but the statcard in-game shows Rafale F3R, and only the F3R onwards had the AESA radar, same for testing the Scorpion HMD.

I would do it myself but I don’t speak french lmao. But Honestly I don’t see the point, I was just bringing it up as an example of the whole tit for tat thing goes both ways. Sorry if I came off as rude.
Instead of removing it a better option (In my opinion) would be to rename/rework the current model into a F.4.1/ F.4 Early airframe, therefore retaining the current capabilities (and widening the gap for an early Rafale at a lower br).

We only speak British here

The IRST was removed since the technology had become outdated - it was late 1990s technology after all.

PIRATE is worse. It is very early 1990s technology. It hasn’t been upgraded because the UK optronics industry hasn’t made sufficient progress to warrant an upgrade. At the same time, PIRATE is also heavily constrained by volume and weight constraints which is a byproduct of fundamental design flaws of the Eurofighter. For comparison, Rafale made over 10x the amount of room for OSF. Eurofighter consortium lacks foresight (among other things).

The point I was making was that Gaijin makes these arbitrary decisions all the time, don’t get your hopes up about nerfing it as they may just say no and leave it.
