Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 3)

how? drag is present the whole time

what starting conditions?

level and descend and climb angles

what launcher speed and altitude, and what target velocity and altitude?

It will be easy as carrier at mach 1.2~ and 7k~ alt, target at mach 1.3

15.7 seconds for a target 20km away. time for the missile itself to travel 20km will vary depending on target range and relative speed due to the changes in how it lofts.

keep in mind that it will be more than 15.7 seconds in actual gameplay since people will do maneuvers or make changes to their course

That literally defies the laws of physics. Once the motor is no longer producing thrust the missile starts decelerating. Drag is always acting on the missile, so as soon as there is no force from the motor to counteract it missile will start slowing down.

We only exception might be if the missile is in a dive where it is trading altitude for speed.

Considering that ramjets tend to have a larger overall width due to their air intakes, I think it’s only natural that they are not being adopted in the modern era of stealth aircraft.

This is somewhat exaggerated, but in this image, the right-hand design has approximately 170% the internal volume of the left-hand design. Considering the capabilities of modern rocket technology, I believe ramjets may be less advantageous than simply using a larger solid rocket motor.

thats a void argument considering the meteor is being integrated into the F-35

That criticism is fair, but the fact remains that the Meteor can only be carried four at a time in the weapons bay, despite having a missile body diameter comparable to that of the AMRAAM. I believe ramjets are inherently inefficient in terms of overall width.

The Meteor may indeed be more capable than the AMRAAM or AIM-260. However, would it actually have a meaningful advantage over the AIM-424, which is expected to be capable of carrying four missiles in the weapons bay?
I do believe ramjets have a significant advantage when overall width is not constrained, even while maintaining the same missile body diameter.

you are comparing a missle that is 10 years in service /longer if we count development.
To newly in development missles specialy developed for the use in those circumstances.
It would be a big issue if the US wouldnt be able to develop a decent bvr missle at this point.

Meaningfull advantage is not being hold down to the US for the weapons productions and being able to fill the weapons bay ourself, while we are already in the process to develop meteor succesor

Maybe… At this rate, Meteor is going to be retired before its actually intergrated

well,at least its succesfully jettisoned now

now clearly just another 6 months years until live trials

Its crazy how long the US will drag their feet to try and sell the weapon people don’t want on their airframes just to say foreign weapons “cost too much”.

Only 2 countries are actively pushing for meteor on F-35.

And the Meteor is part of block 4 upgrades, which also include US weapons and still keeps getting delayed

SPEAR 3 might hit IOC before block 4

Maybe what they should do then, is give Britain the source code thingy… like was in the contract… to allow Britain to intergrate any and all weapons it wants, itself, without having to wait for the Americans to do it.

Would have been done by now if they had actually followed the contract they originally agreed to

A point of order - UK is a T1 partner so has access to more of the source coding than anyone else.

I do however agree that US feetdragging and recent unreliability of anything that requires US support is probably doing wonders for Tempest’s future sales…

Anything new with the Typhoon in the dev? A working gunsight perhaps?..

Also, previously you couldn’t lock on to friendly targets on the radar but as of a couple of updates ago, you can again. Anyone know if this was a deliberate change? I turn the friendly filter off, otherwise I have to cycle through all the additional targets, which is a ball ache.

I saw absolutely nothing.

Not a single bug fix that I could see.

Only hope is Spear-3s in the files. But nothing to suggest they are being added anytime soon

That just sounds like the IFF Filter. Ive had no issues with this

This feature was added in a major update a little while ago. I reported it as a bug back when it was in dev, but they never said anything and went ahead and implemented it anyway. Basically, the only workaround is to turn off the display for allies. I only keep the ally display enabled for SB; otherwise, missiles disappear from the radar scope.
