Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 3)

The sound mods are always just “one mod for all planes” and not “a mod per plane”, aren’t they?

Usually, you can’t really have 1 mod for one vehicle and another mod for a different vehicle.

But most sound mods now can have individual sounds per plane. Like IASM for example it has multiple different sounds applied to different aircraft:

Ah well, I just found the part in the IASM post that the “Multi-RWR” pack is “patreon only”…

I’d love for them to allow sound modders to enable VWS on aircraft that don’t yet have them in-game. Could even be used to make RIO/WSO voicelines.

A talking WSO like in “Project Wingman” would be really nice :D

It is but IMO 100% worth it. The guy has done some amazing stuff and I’ll happily give him some money for it.

The mod is also fully compatible with RCSM so you get the amazing cockpit warnings and tones from IASM paired with the engine, guns etc from RCSM.

The yearly option with 30% discount seems nice ^^

Seriously, that “mod” is how WT should sound by default…

all eurofighters use an english VWS
so no, it isnt appropiate for the German EF

Yeah but they just sound better in each language.

Hmm. I’d prefer the English Lady any day of the week.

The German one sounds like you’re being told off for not getting one’s homework in on time.

‘NEIN! You put ze gear down too early! Are you ein dumkopf!’

‘Retract ze gear! Schnell! NOW!’

Didn’t think they did IRL, but that’s what theyve done for some iirc

wouldnt make sense for a production aircraft like the EF

only ever plane with a german VWS in service with the german AF was the Mig-29G

Anyone else encountered the problem with AIM-9 (L & M as far as I tested) that the missile starts to tumble or encounters a self amplifying hysteresis (continously stronger overcorrections into opposing directions) when at low speed (after motor burn out) and it tries to correct the course at close distance of a maneuvering target?

I fired one in testflight at 7 km from behind at a MiG-15 (I was slightly faster than the MiG) and the MiG did a slow continous U-turn at the last 2 km of flight distance. This was the area where these oscillations occured and the missile fell out of the sky after bleeding all its energy due to these overcorrections. This wasn’t by any means an impossible shot.

That’s just around the maximum range of the AIM-9L/M, its getting too slow and becoming unstable due to a lack of airflow

this happens to essensially every missile when it gets to its maximum range

The thing is: It was flying a straight line and just had to make a slow correction at the end (compensating the slow turn of the target) but this slight maneuver caused it to heavily oscillate and burn all its remaining energy. Without the oscillation it would have been a sure hit as the target was missed just by 100-200 meters or so.

It happens for every missiles in game.
They need to pitch up at low speed to maintain lift, and the slight oscillations of the missile get exponentially worse as it slows down, because the PID is not configured for such a configuration.
This is probably due to server lag, but probably isn’t very unrealistic (would also happen to a real missile with small initial oscillations at those speeds).

This happened in testflight so there shouldn’t be any server lag. Also the controls should have a “hysteresis damping” mechanism so that oscillations do not occur or they at least not “runaway”.
I know that gaijin isn’t able to implement such damping when you look at the instructor of the A-10 at take-off/landing runs or the EF at high speeds and altitude.

Example of oscillation damping:

What was the radar range display showing out of interest?

I was going by the target marker distance and had the radar deactivated as it wasn’t needed for launching an IR missile and I was following the missile view with the “U” button (target marker shows the distance between missile and target in this mode) ^^
