That large calibre chaff is really powerful, I don’t want to bring the fight to this thread obviously, Rafale Large Calibre Chaff can easily decoy a Fox 3 with only just 1 tap if you notch properly. It really stands a different between Tornado IDS and Tornado ADV.
I had to to activate periodic cm so when I launches BOL Chaff, it has the same luminosity with other chaff.
It becomes more problematic when the missile is in closing range, due to how ineffective BOL is, it’s almost impossible to decoy a Fox 3 without hard notching (which in turn will make your Typhoon becoming a flying boat). Let alone that have smaller angle gate like MICA.
Typhoon biggest advantage is the flare dispenser is large calibre, it can easily decoy IR Missiles especially the tracking suspension one like Sidewinder and AAM-3.
Yep, but definetly time to see BOL restored to its former performance if nothing else. Though with IRIS-T and Aim-9X in game now. Full strength BOL flares are also due
The chaff was close enough to correct (given that specific chaff wieghts arent modeled for any aircraft and everyone uses the same soviet chaff cartridge, then there isnt any reason to worry about the potentially minute difference between BOL and the soviet one) . So that could be restored without issue.
BOL Flares… Ideally, yes, it should be modeled properly. But if the game code cannot handle that, and it cannot handle having the BOL flares and BOL chaff be different sizes (and this might be hinted as a possibility with the BOZ pods being all large instead of what was originally reported which was large flares and regular chaff). Then it should just be restored to its original standard CM luminosity, but with its current reduced burn time. It would certainly be far more realistic than the current implementation. Though BOL flares would be underperforming quite a bit still in this configuration.

Thats the best part, it doesnt give any sort of radar signature, they call it silent killer for a reason :d
As good as this sounds, in Air RB any long shots you take will most likely get flared off, just by the enemy reacting to one of your teammates engaging them, same thing happens with the R27ET all the time.
BOL flares implemented properly will be a disaster. Any nato plane would basically become untouchable, no thanks. I’d rather them just be either be kept as is, or be treated as a large caliber flare with less burn time. also, BOL flares get different flares, there’s ones specificially for ir + uv missiles if i recall correctly, others for iir, or something like that of the sort. I just remember seeing a brochure for saab’s bol pods that they can carry something like specific flares for the job
Only the large caliber ones are Spectral.
BOL flares act differently to traditional flares as they’re not aiming to “decoy” missiles away as much as putting up a screen of IR signature in order to obscure the plane.
There’s at least 2 images of the BOL flares from studies that show how they work.
Personally, i’ve noticed small amounts at longer ranges, but I think is related to the wider TWS+ issues rather than anything implicitly CAPTOR-M Related.
But what has everyone else found?
Has the ghosting issue been fixed? (Not CAPTOR-M in general, specifically the issue of it just making up locations of targets as shown in the bug report)
It has been fixed
It hasnt been fixed
It’s a lot better but still room for improvement
It’s better but still needs a lot work
It’s worse than before

How does CAPTOR-M compare in this regard to other M-Scan radars? (i.e What’s left, is it TWS+ to blame or CAPTOR-M)
The radar on the Su-27 and Su-33 are not particularly hard to notch. It does require more chaff to be certain of it and at short distances it can burn through like any other radar. At longer distances it is easier to notch.
The same technique works against the R-27ER but does require more chaff to be sure. I can probably refine it down to use less chaff but RWR doesn’t provide clear indication if missile loses lock. The easiest way to defeat an R-27ER carrier is to shoot an Aim-120 at them. As you can see we are starting close together and I am able to defeat the R-27ER without firing back.
Yeah, that has largely been my finding as well. Been playing some matches in the F3 and the Foxhunter and it feels better than the CAPTOR-M in maintaining a track, but its also updating the track a lot faster
irl yeah, but in game you’re still talking seeker suspension + FOV because gaijin seems to be against modelling true IIR. Will still be flared off by accident.
We had a radar overhaul a few days ago. Its feeling better now. Still got a looooong way to go before its actually the CAPTOR-M. But its no longer the weakest TWS radar in the game
if you go into the Y menu and go to cockpit and then click on the “more” tab you can increase or decrease the hud brightness, lowering it should get rid of the bloom
