Actually, I have a question. Why don’t the MICA-EM and R-77-1 care about the “maximum lock-on angle before launch,” while the AIM-120 does? It flies by coordinates, after all. What difference does it make where the target is?

In my opinion, this limitation should have been absent from the start. That’s the whole point of LOAL.
Let’s then report that the missile has an engine. And a seeker. And that it can turn.

120s data sheets use words like “improved” tracking and “improved” HOB capabilities.

I don’t know about the french report, but I’m sure that @DirectSupport will have some info about it.

So even in the 200° mode the radar scans in horizontal bars?
With vertical bars the radar would move much faster, right?

I got a primary source for r-77 being able to be fired as long as radar has target information (so no angle limit for launches), but the mig-29 smt manual is restricted.
Quite annoying

am i misunderstanding or did they nerf the scan speed just for fun even though we had a scan speed that was already knowingly gimped

Imagine a mech 1 bar scan, the first sweep detects, the second sweep tracks. But with ESA radars first sweep detection straight into ESA updates.

So say the mech 1 bar was 1 second per bar, from detection to track it would 2 seconds.

The pattern on an ESA would be 1 second.

I don’t think that’s what he meant, the question is why would the AESA scan horizontally in individual bars, limiting itself by the mechanical scan speed when it could scan vertically electronically while moving horizontally mechanically (think how PIRATE scans right now) allowing it to cover the area at the same speed it would with an electronic scan.

Can we expect a nerf on soviet ESA radar ACM scan rates for aircraft and for the BUK TELAR if this is the case then?

Because those are more than 2x the speed of any other ESA radar in the game (can scan a 60x60 area in 0.1 seconds if I am reading the files correctly)

If the beam is moving vertically or horizontally within the E-Scan volume is meaningless, in either situation the repositioner wouldn’t move.

Referring to the 200x15 scan where the repositioner and the E-scan work in tandem.

All I know is that all acm patterns for irbis is for 10km and all all completed in <1s

Could you, please, clarify what kind of information is needed? The FOV electronic scan speed or a tandem work of repositioner and a plate for full FOR.
