There’s a Hellfire one
we need a 1:1 scale one tho
So how is catcher E being used during the typhoon now?
@Gunjob are you aware of any Internal reports that sometimes an Pylon is Invissible/misplaced?
Seems to appear Random and only on that slot with the Brimstone, but not allways
What do you mean?
I just ran my own test. I started with a clone of the CAMM missile, then adjusted the mass to match that of ASRAAM, and removed the 1,028 m/s speed cap that CAMM has.
The result was that this simulated ASRAAM just barely met the minimum average speed that the real ASRAAM was required to achieve (and it is known that this requirement was met / exceeded - potentially by a fair margin). So if the drag coefficient of ASRAAM is increased to be any higher than that of CAMM in game the missile in game would fail to achieve the bare minimum performance it was known to achieve in real life. Unless the motor was buffed to compensate.
Out of curiosity what do you think it achieved?
Quite possible (and i’d argue somewhat likely) CAMM is underperforming.
Probably is, though the first step is jsut to re-enable its DL, fix its guidance system and reduce its min range
The DL is set up and works fine, the problem is the game may only allow one DL source, which is set to be the launchers (and their EO tracker) for some reason, and not the SR.
With BvvD’s recent statement about ARM’s we can only hope that we are provided with ALARM. Even on only the second most outborne pylon this would allow 2 ALARM as well as 12 Brimstone, so you would not feel the lack of FnF ATGMs as much. As arguably laser guidance is better for lethality, its just not feasible to defend SAM’s whilst having to guide a singular munition at a time.
It’s a real shame ALARM was retired so early, such a unique and really scarily effective missile. At the time it provided something even the latest variants of Brimstone are only just matching in range, but without the loiter time.
I suppose these days it doesn’t matter too much - not much ALARM can do that a brimstone 3 can’t.
Brimstone 3 cant deploy a parachute
Does Alarm integrate with the airframe to detect and locate Radar emissions?
Could you use it to pinpoint SAMs and then kill them with Alarm/PW IV
I did say not much
SPEAR can just loiter though lol
I’m not sure. I just know that the minimum requirement was met and with average velocity being considered one of the most important requirements it seems likely they would want to try and get closer to the “desired” requirement.
However if the velocity is increased too much then you start getting into the realms of truly bonkers maximum rang performance.
I would not be too surprised if ASRAAAM reaches Mach 5 under some conditions. Meteor cruises at something like Mach 4.5 and MBDA state that ASRAAM experiences significantly more aerodynamic heating than Meteor.
IIRC ARMs aren’t much use at telling you the range to the target, just the bearing.
Yeah indeed, now its irrelevant, but back then it was very effective. Brimstone still doesn’t match ALARM’s 93km+ range at 60km, nor does it match ALARM’s speed at M2 vs M1.3 ish.
Then there’s the Anti-radar seeker, which i believe is less important now with MMW probably being able to recognise radars, hell it may even have some sort of non-advertised anti-radar mode.
But a final very important part is the parachute, if the radar is turned off, ALARM uses IOG to fly to the last known position of a target, i believe it then lofts, and deploys a parachute, and lingers until the radar is turned back on, then it fires another secondary booster and drops the parachute, throwing itself from altitude straight at the radar.
SPEAR 3 reshapes this to a degree, though i’ve no idea if it loiters, and based on the lack of an anti-emission seeker for it, i’d assume MMW surpasses the need for that.
Typhoon is gunna be a roll of the dice, as we have an image of it mounted but docs confirming it wasnt intergrated.
But on the GR1/GR4 is gunna be awesome, providing they dont decide ALARM is “Too OP” and just give us AGM-88 placeholders
In the Q&A they said something about them being set-up in game for locating radars as much as engaging them or something, but I didnt really understand what they were on about
1:45 on the Q&A
