Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

Also for whatever reason the IRST lock seems to drift around a lot? I don’t trust it to guide in brimstones when it’s not even on the target half the time.

Okay, I got an answer from the BW (No, not regarding the Inner Pylon) but for the Canards, according to the Bundeswehr thats the Parking position

Zusammenfassung

Why are the Canards at full angle when on ground?

Regarding 1. It’s the so-called parking position of the slats, regardless of whether the engines are running or not. As long as the aircraft is not in FRS (flight mode), they remain in this position and are automatically moved to the dump position during landing after the nose gear touches down to slow the aircraft down!

Why the diffrent Nose cone colours?

Regarding 2. This small tip is made of plastic and doesn’t indicate which radar is installed. There are only three manufacturers that produce it, so it’s available in different colors and needs to be replaced regularly because the inside burns away over time (due to radar radiation, but that’s intended).

Under which name is the “Eurofighter” in the Bundeswehr?
EF-2000 or really Eurofighter, or someone else?

Regarding 3. We normally call it a Eurofighter, and in the system it is registered under the code 1B = Eurofighter, 1Y Tornado, 1W was the Phantom.

@Gunjob could the Number 1 be used to increase the speed lose when landing/touching ground or anything in that direction?

We have automatic slats when landing in the tornadoes. Surely same feature can be applied?

Gripen would also benefit here, presuming the Rafale also.

(Makes sense for EFT and Gripen as a common feature as BAE wrote the Gripens FBW software)

Rafale air brake already puts the canards in a pitched position, and it’s implemented in game. Now, whether it would pitch even more during landing, I don’t think so.
Rafale in usual « park » positions keeps its canards feathered compared to the EFT where they are completely pitched down

Hmmm yeah briefly looking at a few photos they don’t seem to pitch significantly down like those on Gripen and EFT do. Interesting.
