Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

Hi, @Gunjob (or anyone else), do you know what the current state of PIRATE is currently in the game? Does it match the historical performance? Is there any documentation publicly available? Any outstanding reports waiting to be implemented?

I remember there were some changes done to it during the DEV and early Live days, but I haven’t heard anything about it since, and I don’t have the British or Italian Typhoons to test it out myself (from what I can tell, it has the same problems plaguing other IRSTs in the game).

Yeah seems like every irst is underperforming in terms of range (by orders of magnitude). For pirate specifically other than range it’s missing tws functionality and other stuff I might be unaware about

PIRATE*, OSF, ORBIS (or whatever the name of the Su30 IRST is?) are all missing their TWS equivalents and range. Would be nice to see a rework of those modern IRST at some point

It is not like gaijin needs to majorly rework the IRSTs, they just need to remove the 30km hard cap on range

OLS-27 for the su27
OLS-30 for the su30

Reports that im aware of

and related to PIRATE:

Also should work at the same time as radar not independently and I think should also function as MAWS?

There is a 30km limit in the code right now that causes the max range to be unachievable. Otherwise it would detect a Flanker at 0.99M @ 37km.

About the 30km limit, is it the same one as on the Flankers (the range gate), or is there some other limitation on top of that? I know that custom battles, for some reason, seem to have a 30 km limit on all IR signatures, while live battles do not. For example, when I was testing out the OLS-27 in custom missions, I noticed that both the OLS-27 and R-27ET were capped at 30 km, while in live matches only the OLS-27 was capped (ET could lock +40 km out).

Front aspect dry thrust, I would assume?
Does the IRST performance match the specifications apart within the 30 km limit?

Yeah that limit isn’t EFT specific. And its 30km for dry thrust not reheat. Reheat works fine.

Yeah its configured correctly beyond the code limit.

Front aspect, right?

Yes.

Oh, lastly, do you know if reheat properly affects the detection ranges on PIRATE? As in, does the aircraft going into reheat properly increase its detection range? IIRC, PIRATE is currently the only one with band7 (afterburner plume) detection range implemented.

It does yes.

Nice, thanks for the help.

Which by the way is still very probably much too low…

So that’s why eurofighter irst feels so good compared to the flanker ones

Possible, I wouldn’t know as I don’t have the Typhoon yet. The Flanker’s is very sad…

From going off the specifications of the ols 27 and 27k the flankers irst seems to be underperforming a lot… (so is the r24t, I think I once saw a table with lock ranges for that thing). Maybe if it got this after burning range band that the eurofighter gets then maybe it won’t be so bad. Also, is the pirate able to guide in laser bombs and tv bombs and stuff of that sort like the su35 irst?

What’s the electronic steering limit for the aesa typhoon? Ik it’s 100 degrees total but I wanna know how much it is before it has to move mechanically

PIRATE has no laser component (it’s passive), but it can detect and track ground vehicles, that i assume can then be handed off to other systems (TGP/BRIM).

60-70 degrees is normal for AESA radars, from this video i used a protractor and it came out to 60 and 65 degrees (maybe different modes who knows), but keep in mind this is Captor E Mk0.
