Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 2)

Referring to the 200x15 scan where the repositioner and the E-scan work in tandem.

All I know is that all acm patterns for irbis is for 10km and all all completed in <1s

Could you, please, clarify what kind of information is needed? The FOV electronic scan speed or a tandem work of repositioner and a plate for full FOR.

Yeah all acm patterns are within the e scan of ±60

The E-Scan volume is at most 140° so in any situation requiring more than that would require the repositioner to move?

Any scan pattern that is less than 140° total FoR demonstrating a given speed or information regarding the time taken to E-Scan a given volume.

Gaijin turning captor-e to captor-m

What exactly is their concern about the ESA scan speed being that high? Available power to the radar should be the only limiting factor, no?

Let me reword.

Basically the current consensus is that for a 200 degree scan, the repositioner moves horizontally, and the E-scan effectively does almost nothing as the radar scans in horizontal bars, like any other radar.

What the question was is why would it do this, when the E-scan can scan vertically as well during this motion (due to its significantly faster scan rate) effectively eliminating several or all of the bars, and covering a much larger area.

Oh, do you remember Stinger situation? Same thing 100%

But the Shilka and many other radars already have such high scan rates (vertically)

Even the BUK TELAR can do a full 60x60 scan at 80km in less than a second

Good question, no idea haha. I’m sure there is some complex reason why its done one way or another but not a radar engineer.

Surely we can use this to say we should have a wider E-scan mode… right?

Don’t think much explanation is needed to show this isn’t 90 degrees.

Is it just me, or are contact really faint when using the sector PPI?

I’ve reported that.

Ah sweet, glad im not going crazy. Was debating switching back to it, but I just couldnt see anything :D

Yeah its more useful for WFoR radars than I found it on the usual 140° radars.

Just need to figure out the missile ranging on the sector PPI, its not as clean as it is on the B-Scope

But I wish we could toggle between Sector PPI and B-Scope via a keybind

its the rings on the PPI, one for rMax and one for NEZ;
