Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

it has the humps in the air intake as the boundary seperator as seen on the JF-17 for example

I say we do away with wings, who needs them when you can thrust vector 50gs and make pilot soup.

Divertless supersonic intake bulges, those probably are.

Like speed bumps for the air to slam into when you go really fast so the engine doesn’t have a bad day.

2035 + a bit to phase out the Typhoon for the Tempest.

Japan is going to keep that program on schedule.

Keep the MoD/British Gov on Schedule?

That might be a task even the Japanese cant achieve

First Prototype is already under construction :)

Has the tea kettle been installed yet?

Idk maybe XD - I am following the Japanese side of GCAP more actively. What they’ve developed in the last couple of years is quite interesting and may find their way into GCAP / F-3 (e.g. the engine already seems to be).

The question is, what is going to be added to WT first. The Tempest or the F-2 :P

To my understanding, its non-negotiable to the japs in this program.

@WreckingAres283
Due to the way the contract has been written a number of provisions have been put in place by both the Japanese MoD and the British MoD to keep companies (primarily BAE) on a short leash, cost overruns are pretty much fronted by the consortium members, timescale overruns are heavily penalised, regular progress reviews are incorporated for every major component involved and now the workshares part has been signed withdrawal is so heavily penalised it would almost be cheaper not to withdraw at all.

This thing is going ahead and it is going to go smoothly.

Also this is my first post on the forum in months, hello again everyone.

They already accepted a 5-year delay to 2035, Japan’s original timescale was 2030-2031 for their F-X programme.

For reference, they agreed to that delay for further development. I meant for that to support your statement i.e; they won’t accept any more delays than that.

FC/ASW to be exact, or as they called the program in the UK : Spear 5

It’s supposed to come in 2 variants :

  • stealth subsonic (the one on the right in your picture), direct successor to storm shadow
  • high supersonic (Mach 3+) and not so stealth (the one on the left in the same picture), successor to Harpoon / Exocet

As for the roles, it’s supposed to be antiship, cruise as well as anti radiations for SEAD. Some sources also point to it being a potential “Super long range meteor” for anti awacs duties.

We’ll see what the finished thing (things ?) can do though, only speculations for now.

The thing isn’t that theoretical anymore, as the program is currently funded and in development phase

MBDA made some models a few years ago
