At least the Gripen doesnt still have the F-16D radar it had on launch. But yeah, the neglect is real.
I did a match last night in the Sea Harrier FA2 and another in the Typhoon and I felt the FA2 was a little more consistant in finding targets, but I cant dismiss the possibility that is down to the fact the FA2 is much slower and I had more time to search for targets. In all other respects. apart from things like the search areas. I do not know if I could tell any difference in operation/functionality. They both seem to track similarly and feel almost identical
Itd make sense the blue vixen feels more consistent at finding targets, CAPTOR-M has 35.7% less scan area than the Blue Vixen/PS-05A, all in the vertical plane, which as covered before is the most important plane for ease of finding targets. Thats a considerable difference in favour of Blue Vixen. Having more time to find them as well likely helps some more.
There is that, and that may very well be a moderate part of it. But I had it again last night, where I pointed the CAPTOR-M straight at a target I could see and I wanted to ID the target. The radar would not find the contact at all in the medium scan mode, I tried for a good 10 seconds or so but found it instantly in the narrow mode. Something is not quite right with the CAPTOR-M in actually detecting contacts but I would have no idea where to begin with testing it or figuring out what the issue was. I really should go back and look at the replay, see if I could find a cause.
But in both the Gripen and FA2. I’ve never had that issue. If I see a target, the radar would find the target, likewise with basically any other radar like the Foxhunter on the F3, or the Blue Fox on the FRS1. So I dont think its user error to blame
Others have reported issues against the F-14 and I myself have had issues with detecting Aim-120 launches from a Typhoon. I think RWRs are currently in a semi-broken state
Maybe check sensor mode replay? I def get what you mean with the CAPTOR-M seemingly missing obvious targets, but sometimes stuff like that is just cuz of user error. I havent actually checked those situations in sensor view myself mostly cuz i get angry and forget about being reasonable tho lol.
Something is definitely going on with the F15. I’ve been killed like 4 times now with no beep at all, only started happening recently and it’s always an F15.
So having a look. It felt like 10 seconds, but was more like 3 seconds especially as I was not scanning the correct airspace for a chunk of that time (I use manual elevation) But it definetly swept the target in the wide mode but did not find it until I switched to the narrow mode. The beam passed over the contact about 3 or 4 times
The replay appears to show it finding the target, but I do not recall it doing so in the match, and symbology is different to that of the normal TWS. so I think its an artifact of the replay
It does also interestingly appear to lose the track when I swap back to the medium mode
Yeah, exactly what I thought, but I think its an artifact of the replay because I do not recall that at all in the actual match. (i need to start hitting my AMD ReLive keybind more often and compare)
Yeah, this basically my feeling every single time I play the Typhoon at the moment. I dont feel like im doing anything wrong and I cant figure out any reason why the radar is not doing what im expecting it to be doing. But so often it just doesnt see targets
Theres been quite a few times where ive had to abort and go fully defensive in a BVR fight I EASILY should have had the advantage in simply due to the fact the radar would not display the target at all. I typically keep it in medium scan as well since its the scan mode with the largest vertical area, so I figured itd give me the best chance to actually find the target I can see with my eyes, but now I’m not so sure considering your video.
Yep. I know exactly what you mean and I have a wardrobe (or 2) full of those T-Shirts.
I have thus far just assumed that maybe I was making a mistake and not pointing my radar into the right bit of space. I generally sit at a far higher altitude in the Typhoon than I normally do and im still learning to operate the radar in 3 dimension.( In the Tornado F3, sitting at 50ft was my norm and rarely did I climb.) but now Im left wondering whether I made no mistakes at all and the radar simply did not see the target. I see a LOT of server replays in my future going forward and I think we need to start documenting this behavour
Thats what I’m thinking on my end as well, granted Im at the point where the Typhoon is such a travesty to fly in VR, I dont really wanna touch it anymore until they start actually fixing stuff.
The fact I dread playing the plane is not exactly confidence inspiring…
I am much the same. Ive been enjoying playing other games to WT at the moment anyway (ground events always burn me out) but when I do fancy some war thunder. Im just put off by the issues in the Typhoon (and the less than stellar environment for it in top tier ASB) and isntead favour other aircraft. I find myself drawn towards the Mirage F1C-200 to continue grinding out the French TT. Aircraft like the Rafale or even the M2Ks just look like more fun to play at the moment than the Typhoon
On the Gripen this scope is implemented “conditionally”. It does not react to the change in the aircraft altitude and always shows the altitude as 5k feet.
On the Rafale this scope is implemented better, but it is still “crooked” and does not work quite correctly. There are some problems with the scale and if you climb higher, then the targets near the ground will still not be displayed on this scope.
Let them first rework this scope in principle, and then add it.
Tbf gaijin has a very hard time adding these radars and their correct huds. The gripens problems also dont make any sense considering the C’s use a radar they never used. Would be very nice if gaijin took a bit to fix radars and their cockpit hud elements so they actually work correctly for SIM.
I’ll be glad if the result turns out to be:
Gripen - hooray, something new and maybe even useful. Cool.
Rafale - wow, it even works. Well… a little.
Typhoon - hmm. Okay, it works correctly.
But I doubt it somehow :D
Kind of odd they dont have it working properly. The radar B-scopes and PPI react just fine, so they clearly have reactive MFD’s working fine, so its odd they dont have sensor profile views working right. Not like it should require a ton fo work, scale should change with current altitude and radar scope range, and the beam should work much like PPI’s azimuth slewing, except in elevation instead.
I’ll be glad if the Gripen C’s ever get their actual C modifications. They are so bad in the current Meta i cant even find a reason to play them for fun.
Eventually ill get back to grinding my 2 EFT’s on Germany and Britain but im sticking to more simple planes for now. Dont have the fingers to use my radar keybinds in a actual match while playing defensive lol.
Looking forward to the EFT since it seems only the IRST and radar are bugged. So between the 3 eurocanards the one gaijin spent the most time on. (Now i pray the radar is in a better state when i unlock it lol.)
