So you think SPEAR 3 should come with no counterparts?
Let’s not forget cases of the opposite happening, I don’t see you complaining about the F-111C coming with the 111F, or AIM-120 coming to UK, or AIM-9’s, or AGM-65’s, or Shermans, or M10, or Paveway GBU’s, or AH-64, or F6F, or F-4, or F4F
But ask for a counterpart for a very strong weapon and it’s hurr durr UK suffer
when it has the same warhead if not smaller, and is also GPS guided with the option for SAL or IR (they can make it just GPS) I wouldnt say its “much better than anything in its general class in-game right now”
Typhoon gets no stand off GPS guided weapon like GBU-39 or Grom-2/FAB-3000
Typhoon gets no FnF AGM like AGM-65, AASM or Kh-38.
If we are purely talking about GPS-only spear-3s, then whilst they would have better range than GBU-39, they would help off-set the total lack of any FnF AGM by giving us an advantage. Not even necessarily all that big of meaningful given the inherrent weaknesses of GPS only weapons with regard to using them at meaningful ranges.
Its annoying that the Typhoon gets denied a huge amount of its A2G potential already, even something as simple as SAL-Only Brimstone 2s, its another when potentially unique advantages are apparently not allowed for the Typhoon
Unlike Grom-1, they dont have any meaningful warhead, so wont be an OP base destroyer and the US already has the GBU-39 for mass launched GPS glide weapon.
Nor is a Brimstone a Brimstone without MMW. But here we are
Spear-3 as GPS only for now, and then maybe GPS+SAL in the relatively near future would be a good option for a longer ranged stand off weapon whilst we await MMW
