typhoon still is the best fm in game
Yeah, Aim-9M is underperforming significantly and is a niche weapon. Its great when it can be used to its strengths, but far weaker than its rivals at all other times. Just glad its a minority that have the better AAM and most have the 9M, so its not felt too badly
Yes it’s fast climbs well but not that much better than an F-15E now with the nerfs
It’s Radar and missiles are poor though
amraams are still really good
I have rather mixed success with them, but would kill for something with even half decent HOBS or just for the 9Ms to have anything other than point blank lock ranges
Not really bud, they are good long range if no one tries to defend them,
as range reduces players just defeat them by multipathing or by dropping some chaff.
I have seen 120s miss from 5km away against a jet that has stalled out and is dumping chaff…
Eh…
Their only real advantage is the longer range, but between everyones increasing confidence in defending against fox-3s (which is a given for most at top tier) and the increased performance of the aircraft the Typhoon faces (Aircraft like the F-15, Su-30 and Rafale) have the CM count, RWR performance and FM to defend with ease at medium range
So where most of the fights usually actually take place are well within effective ranges for the R-77-1 and MICA EM which hold huge advantages over the AMRAAM these days. Especially the MICA now its got the best seeker out of any ARH and its not a small advantage either.
Aim-120s remain usable, but are no where near as strong as they were when new.
Especially when combined with the near-useless radar on the Typhoon, any form of BVR fight is a chore just to get the radar to lock onto the right target
literally stated why they missed
So a 120 can hit a hovering helicopter but not a stalled out Su-27…
I wonder which one has a bigger RCS
it isnt about rcs, its about the velocity, a stalled out target will have 0 velocity and will be filtered out by PD filters along with the ground clutters. helicopters move decently thats why it hits them. if its hovering you cant radar lock it in the first place using PD.
low ahh quality for peak ahh image
Am I tripping or you guys see that too
If only that’s how AIM 120s seekers worked
thats how aim120 works
I will have to find the document.
Works on a similar design to the ARHM head on Patriot which can also shoot down targets with little to no inertia
bassically IOG or base pulse mode (vulnerable to chaff and ground clutter)
A jet not moving as you put it would be dumping chaff directly behind or in Russian cases on top of the aircraft.
The 120 wouldn’t fail to connect.
