It is good in flight performance the rest is pretty average.
Su-30SM superior Radar, superior missiles, weaker FM
J-11B Superior Radar, superior missiles, similar FM
Rafale Superior Radar, superior missiles, superior FM
All Typhoon currently does is go fast and turn.
It’s Radar is so buggy you cant really BVR with it and it’s payload of 6 120s makes BVR a waste of time
as wasting your missiles on speculative shots will only get you killed.
They scan faster have a larger scan window and update quicker essentially meaning they see everything at once. The advantage these systems give you in game cannot be understated.
Weapons are mid though. Aim9m needs to get out, I swear irccm feels like it has been nerfed, in combination with the lock range, and manueverability, makes a horrible missile
AESA should be superior to CAPTOR-M just because its an M-Scan, but CAPTOR-M shouldnt be miles behind either as its got some pretty important tricks up its sleave, like Priority Track. Its the closest thing you can get to E-Scan without being E-Scan. (and thats without including the PIRATE intergration we should also have)
But its so weak in game currently and requires so much effort to use, that it falls short of many M-scan radars, which is definetly not accurate.
Also, with FGR4 being one of our end of line aircraft, there isnt any meaningful reason why we couldnt get CAPTOR-E sooner rather than later. Then just add th F2 for the CAPTOR-M before the FGR4
Yeah, Aim-9M is underperforming significantly and is a niche weapon. Its great when it can be used to its strengths, but far weaker than its rivals at all other times. Just glad its a minority that have the better AAM and most have the 9M, so its not felt too badly
I have rather mixed success with them, but would kill for something with even half decent HOBS or just for the 9Ms to have anything other than point blank lock ranges
Not really bud, they are good long range if no one tries to defend them,
as range reduces players just defeat them by multipathing or by dropping some chaff.
I have seen 120s miss from 5km away against a jet that has stalled out and is dumping chaff…
Their only real advantage is the longer range, but between everyones increasing confidence in defending against fox-3s (which is a given for most at top tier) and the increased performance of the aircraft the Typhoon faces (Aircraft like the F-15, Su-30 and Rafale) have the CM count, RWR performance and FM to defend with ease at medium range
So where most of the fights usually actually take place are well within effective ranges for the R-77-1 and MICA EM which hold huge advantages over the AMRAAM these days. Especially the MICA now its got the best seeker out of any ARH and its not a small advantage either.
Aim-120s remain usable, but are no where near as strong as they were when new.
Especially when combined with the near-useless radar on the Typhoon, any form of BVR fight is a chore just to get the radar to lock onto the right target
it isnt about rcs, its about the velocity, a stalled out target will have 0 velocity and will be filtered out by PD filters along with the ground clutters. helicopters move decently thats why it hits them. if its hovering you cant radar lock it in the first place using PD.
