Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion (Part 1)

Then it would be logical and convenient if all missiles were guided exclusively by laser. That way, there would be no arguments or imbalance in the game.

AFAIK spectral flares don’t actually work against IIR at least from what I understand but I don’t know enough? My understanding was that IIR almost takes a picture so if you don’t match the shape then the missile won’t decoy. Because they aren’t in the right shape and aren’t paired to the UV+IR signature of the target (though I do know they’re optimised).

BOL is kinda like spectral but also creates a huge cloud behind the aircraft so the missile then wouldn’t be able to reacquire the target unless it had some sort of built-in IR scanning pattern incase it loses lock.

Also yeah… they worked someone will find a solution, just over 20 years ago it was UV+IR flares, before that it was high IR signatures and before that it was having flares full stop.

So what you’re saying is the F-14 not being able to flare IR missiles for 3 years at this point is not because it’s hotter than other planes with the same engines, but because it has more thrust? So planes like the F-14 that have insane amounts of thrust compared to everything else are just screwed? Single engine planes are easier to flare missiles with (even though that’s not how heat works)?

Sorry for the disruption. I was researching for an engine heat bugreport for the F-14… not anymore.

Current Rafale ingame is borderline the newest model they could get, they just havent given it the proper name (sorta, iirc @WreckingAres283 mentionned its more of an indian Rafale than a F4.1 Rafale, but theyre pretty close from my understanding).

The only thing the Rafale can really gwt (unless new mechanics are added) are better missiles afaik.

Who is saying Gajin

We were talking about bug reports

i guess its hard to follow when you can’t even calculate thrust right

Yeah, it would be.

i have had absolutely nothing to do with any bug reports

Do you know if BOL can carry spectral flares? In the same quantity too?

BOL doesnt really have “flares”

it has these:

Which create a huge cloud that physically hides the aircraft from the LoS of the seeker

Interesting. Hopefully this gets added soon.

Yep, with IRIS-T coming next major, its needed mroe than ever. But even just restoring BOL to what they were like pre-Gripen would be awesome. They litereally drop 1/4 the amount of chaff for example than they should

By “later Rafale with better missiles” I mainly meant a separate plane in WT at a higher BR.

Sure, the aircraft itself won’t be a ton better than what we currently have, if at all.

How many pops are each of those?

I think thats kinda the point.

The Rafale in-game is about as good as it can physically get bar its loadout.

The Typhoon, assuming we get a later variant rather than just incremental upgrades for the current Tpyhoon will get

CAPTOR-M to CAPTOR-E
Striker 1 HMD to Striker 2 HMD
Different IR missiles
Different ARH missiles
Different A2G weapons
Maybe extra DASS/ECM capabilities

and probably a few others things im missing. Now hopefully we’ll get some of that like the Striker 2 on the current FGR4, but still a later variant would see quite a major upgrade in terms of radar performance.

Just wierd they basically skipped Rafale F3. I know we skipped the Typhoon F2 for example, but thats just because the F2 (and more importantly Germanys equivalent) didnt have A2G at all, but what we have currently is an F2 with A2G.

PESA + 6x MICA upgrading to AESA + 8x MICA would have been a reasonable upgrade track for them

I have no idea. Thats a Flame or Gunjob question.

But… an event described in Paul Tremelings book “Harrier how to be a fighter pilot” where he had a BOL packet fall out on take-off in a Harrier Gr9, the ATC thought it was sparks falling from the engine but was just a single BOL packet, so that might be just 1-2 packet(s).

Tbf, its not really gonna matter if the Rafale doesnt get any better, seeing as it blows everything in-game out of the water already, so unless things change, it wont have any real challengers until 5th gen it seems.

I doubt that current Typhoons will get Striker II in the game …

Isn’t what we have basically an F3 with HMD and 2 extra MICA EMs?

I mean … I can see why they wouldn’t want to add a new top aircraft without HMD …
They should’ve probably named it F4.1 or something …

PESA and AESA are basically the same in the game

And as far as MICA goes, it was a choice on their end
They could leave the current F3R variant with 6 MICA EMs or even name it F4.1 and leave it with 6 MICA EMs

Why?

Rafale F3 got HMD because it was tested prior to the Rafale F4

The Typhoon FGR4 is being tested with the Striker II right now and is a more minor upgrade than going from no HMD to HMD. For the most part, its just a multi coloured display

HMD I can accept on the ground of balance, but the extra 2x MICA and AESA radar was just a wierd thing to skip too

Exactly. the FGR4 is actually an F2 with PW4s and Brimstone 1s.

The Rafale F3 is actually an Rafale F4.1

You can see why Typhoon players are a little annoyed, especially when the things we do have like CAPTOR-M or even Striker 1 HMD is so badly modeled.

Perhaps, for now.

Well
When AESA Typhoon comes, it will have a better radar than Rafale
Striker II will also be a better HMD (depending on how it gets implemented)

More missiles
Better air to ground weapons (If IR AASM gets nerfed)

Flight performances are close and the small difference might not matter as much at that point. Plus EF is faster …

As I said earlier, the only potential advantage Rafale will have will be IR MICA (NG)'s longer range and thrust vectoring (And MICA EM’s thrust vectoring)
