Because they never have before.
and besides, the right time was when the Rafale went from PESA to AESA… Oh wait
Because they never have before.
and besides, the right time was when the Rafale went from PESA to AESA… Oh wait
Well, just tried a match in ASB on Tunisia.
Conclusion.
Su-30SM is definetly the meta aircraft in SB right now.
Edit trying a larger map now, had an su-30 on radar according to NCTR, waiting till it was in my LSZ, fired 4 AMRAAMs at it, turns out it was an R-77-1. NCTR is working great
Yeah, the “spend 20 minutes slowly moving the radar elevation around to find this Su-30 on my RWR before he can shoot me down with his E-Scan radar and then rapidly fire off every missile i’ve got just so that he cant defend by shooting my missile down” gameplay loop of ASB in the Typhoon is just… boring
and thats just when the radar will actually find the target or stay tracking long enough to fire an AMRAAM
I’ll play a match in the typhoon to and see how it goes in a bit. Altho im ngl, you’re kinda cooking yourself by playing such a small map at top tier.
Im now on dover strait and just spending my entire time staring at my radar panel trying to get a lock on the few guys on their team. But fighting Su-30s sucks
I’ve been in this match 20 minutes, fired 10 AMRAAM (at targets within the LSZ), still on 0 kills and 0 deaths
Edit: Game just crashed, CBA to reboot
he says it doesn’t have captor M as a bit because it doesn’t perform like it should
The regular scan pattern is carried out at 70°/s. However the radar antenna itself is capable of moving at over 300°/s.
The simplest implementation of priority track IRL works as follows:
The radar is set to a 140° wide scan, with however many bars. As the radar beam passes a target’s position in azimuth it will rapidly jump to the target’s elevation, scan the area around the target, then return to where it left off.
Taking a 140° wide 4 bar scan as an example: it would take 8 seconds to complete the scan at 70°/s, meaning in a traditional TWS system targets would be updated every 8 seconds. However with priority track running targets would be updated at least every 2 seconds.
So while no one is claiming priority track is as fast as an AESA a 4x increase in effective scan speed is a pretty big deal (particularly as TWS+ in game seems to be less buggy at higher scan rates).
Best mech scan Radar ever produced…
Yeah acts the same as a 70s Radar on an F-4…
But GMTI is coming so maybe they fix the Radar overall…
Are you sure? We went through the same scenario like 3-4 times already. Abandon your hopes.
I’m still mad over flight model nerf though… It’s just not fun to play anymore.
Not really to be honest, im sure I saw MFDs and GMTI modes…as a list of proposed changes for Typhoon due this update
So I was gonna make a quick comparison between a couple different top tier radars to try to give a slightly more visual representation of how they “feel” and why I say the CAPTOR-M is so bad compared to other top tier radars, and I ended up comparing most of them cuz I built a table, so here y’all go:
Few of my own notes for different radars here:
Feel free to lemme know your thoughts and agree/disagree with my conclusions.
P.S: I didnt include any notes on the N001VEP cuz its just the worst “top tier” radar. Its not really worth discussing imo, everyone knows its bad, I included it to show how close the CAPTOR-M is to it in some ways.
My experience:
Isn’t type 1473 just a copy paste Zhuk radar with less range? Not surprising it’s good.
V004 is such a good radar, shame it’s not on a fighter
N011M IMO is better than the rafale due to the update rate, Rafale’s vertical scans are too big which means it takes very long to find a target compared to say the n011m if you already know the general direction where they’re coming from.
Wish they kept captor M as a copy paste gripen radar, would be better in vertical coverage while still having the same scan rate.
APG series of radars are just good at everything, they don’t excel at anything but not bad at anything either.
In terms of radars (IRL) being able to track targets outside the current search volume or assign higher priority to some tracks, it’s not unique to ESA nor to CAPTOR; Even APG-66/68 which are quite basic as far as modern mech scan radars go can do it …
Hey @Gunjob, sorry for pinging you, is there a chance we could see this fixed in the next major? Community Bug Reporting System
I don’t want to disrespect the work of the devs, but this same issue was fixed on the Su-30 very quickly during, I think, the 2nd day of Hornet Sting’s dev server.
Just wondering if we can finally get this as well.
so, it not just me that I feel better using Gripen radar than EFT
Nope, Gripen radar has better scan volumes than the EFT’s. A decent amount better actually. The EFT has better range, but its irrelevant considering the maps and weapons. The tighter beam on the EFT might help it in some scenarios as well, but I dont think its to the point its noticeable.
Afaik, most if not all ppl who’ve used both have said the Gripens feels much better. I cant comment though since i dont have the Gripen myself.
Well from my experience I can say I can find target better than Faster than CAPTOR-M
I feel more comfortable using Raven than CAPTOR-M in any mode like 20 percent more comfortable than CAPTOR-M
first, I thought maybe because I’m playing with Gripen lot more times than EFT
but after I saw your table, I don’t think it a case anymore.
Captor M just wont detect or lock. You see contrails below and to the left. Slew the Radar…and Captor sees nothing.
You are wholly dependent on your team mates spotting targets for you.
You can see it with your Mk1 eyeball and your Radar cannot and it will get you killed.
Captor is held back and I think it is intentionally.
Much like MAWs/DASS and BOL countermeasures.
Typhoon with an AESA Radar would be superior to Rafale/Su-30/F-15 etc and risk breaking the games balance
