Ah yes You are right.
Saab states that “This upgrade will allow Hungary to choose from a wider selection of weapons to fit to their Gripens [such as] IRIS-T - infrared Within Visual Range (WVR)”
Ok, even If probably they are not integrated yet. I never saw a picture of the HUAF Jas39 with them, probably it’s just a matter of time
they might have already gotten the upgrade to use IRIS-T but not purchased any. I would expect this to be a purely or mostly software upgrade.
Same thing with with EFs though, 1 software update and it can carry other weapons but the countries migt require different evaluations and testing
just like with the brimstones, they were a standard software every eft already had from block 2 onwards if i remember right
Most likely
The first integration was P3Ea but that was Brimstone II. P3Ec apparently brings Brimstone III integration
During the original hashing out of the agreement the agreement was ‘that the UK will have the ability to successfully operate, upgrade, employ and maintain the joint strike fighter such that the UK retains operational sovereignty over the aircraft.’ This included the ability to integrate missile’s such as METEOR and SPEAR,
Then LM refused the export of the source code which is needed to do all of these things, the UK claimed violation of contract and the US government got involved and refused to change it. Too much had been bet on the JSF for us to pull out or kick off to any degree that would threaten our orders.
So now SPEAR and Meteor which the UK had always planned to integrate domestically ASAP can only be integrated by LM in Eglin Air Force Base. That wasn’t too much of an issue as after the contract violation they were supposed to be at the top of the pile. MBDA made both missiles compatible and shared the missiles software with LM.
Then more recently LM announced that they would be focusing on other aspects of the aircraft and the date slipped from 2020 (which was the UK-based timescale), to 2025, to now ‘by the end of the decade’ with the block 4 upgrades, which conveniently the AIM-260 will also be part of.
This is a slight oversimplification but you understand the gist. Its relevant to all European F-35’s particularly relevant for those in UK, German and Italian service which we see in-game.
Yanks being yanks I guess. The F-35 has been a disaster from start to finish, I hope we’ve learnt some lessons from it (probably not).
I don’t know much about the specific details of modern Hungarian equipment, I mostly know about their WW2 equipment instead. @PacketlossRedux or @Csirkespite or @atta26hu may know the answer to your question.
As far as I Know Germany has not show interest to’ join UK and Italy in integrating the two weapons. We Will see in 2030 when the First Germans F35 Will arrive.
That’s true but i’d imagine they’d use it for commonality reasons to be honest. As of current it is just the UK and Italy officially but I recall the F-35’s Meteor has a high degree of commonality with that used on the Eurofighter.
But indeed we will see. If they select AIM-260 though then that would really be a kick in the balls for the UK.
They bought Aim120C-8. Altought as stated before by @Faster_Boiiiii they Will probably be used on the EFA, it is very likely that they will be adopted on tbe F35. And since theyr main porpouse Will be CAS, It Is possible that they Will be satisfied with the C8. (Btw mine Is pure speculation based on what could be)
Of course, I presume the EF’s will use a mixture of AMRAAM C-8 and Meteor though as Meteor is in fairness, hugely expensive. I suspect Germany will increase it’s F-35 fleet though as they’ve secured domestic manufacturing or assembly (something on those lines).
the amount Meteor cost i don’t they give it up easily
That’s exactly why they would give it up that easily. If the US has any plans to replace AMRAAM on even a 1:3 basis in the 5 years after its debut it will be significantly cheaper than Meteor.
Yeah but if you have meteor already you might as well keep it
in 2021 the IRIS-T missile order contract was signed and the MS20 Block II modernization program is too underway.
ah so not yet finished, integration in the coming years, thanks for information, might be hungary getting 2 versions of the grippen then for war thunder
There is no such thing as an independent SA Tech tree therefore its a British Tech tree in practise.
