Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet

Is that even possible? Doesn’t the Arexis integration replace the wingtip pods which are used for the DASS? Could that also mean with the Arexis wingtip pods the EF gets wingtip pylons like the Gripen but loosing its towed decoy?

Praetorian includes other things, on top of the wing tip pods.

That part surprised me as well, but the only images of Taurus on a Eurofighter in flight that I can find are on IPA.7, so maybe? (Tho there’s also just no reason to carry them around in peace time to be fair)

I have no idea tbh. Maybe the new DASS is compact enough that both systems can be stuffed in there?

With Tonkas still about and able to run 4 instead of the 2 of the Typhoon (if im not mistaken?) it does kinda make sense that it was a lower priority addition for the Typhoon. (though there are loads of examples of peace-time thumb twiddling that ends when a capability is actually needed)

Im not sure when Storm Shadows were added, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was sometime after the decision to retire the GR4

With a Typhoon planned for a dedicated SEAD role, it makes sense to be part of the loadout

Very weird that they’d integrate it on the tornados and the Gripen but skip the Eurofighter

Yeah, i just went ahead and send the BW an Email. Maybe they just made an error in the article?

Just out of curiosity: with the placement of the transceiver units in the wingtip pods of the Arexis system, would they be able to act as radars for something like a 360° spherical MAW? They use AESA technology for their EW capabilities AFAIK.

Spoiler

I could be wrong, but they might be saying that some will have the new Preatorian DASS while others will have Arexis? Wasnt it specifically the EK that was stated to get Arexis?

Ah right, I remember now. They wanted to get F-35s and new EFT ECR variants. They discussed to go F-35 only or upgrade the Typhoon and in the end they went with ordering 35 F-35A and 15 EFT ECR for electronic warfare. Political decision also regarding nuclear capabilities, etc.

That’s what I remembered as well, but the way the sentence is written doesn’t sound like that. If they didn’t write the “zusätzlich” it would’ve meant that they’re replacing DASS with Arexis. And from what I’ve understood so far all (german) Tranche 5 will be EKs

Tranche 4 an EK are probably split between new praetorian and arexis and then Tranche 5 will get the amalgamation. Or at least that’s how I understand the info

Praetorian is the Eurofighter’s whole DASS system. It includes the internal processor and transmitter boxes that interpret signals from the external antennas, and then give instructions to all of the plane’s defensive equipment, from the towed decoy and ECM antennas, to the countermeasure dispensers.

It’s likely saying that the Saab transmitter and receiver units in the wingtip pods will simply replace the obsolescent Selex/Leonardo ones in the current wingtip pods. Praetorian will still be the system processing information from and transmitting instructions to those new pods.

Pointless to have in game, but the two seater variant is beautiful

hard disagree there, it makes the front look way to flanker-ish in my opinion

I like the shape of the neck of where the canopy ends

As long as you like It…

That thing is more bulbous than Max Verstappens neck

Flanker has a very peculiar curve shape to it…

I meant like one of the fat Suchois ( i call all SUs flanker, because i dont respect them enough to learn the actual names)
